In the promos it shows some extreme morph type characters, has that been improved? I tried with the female convertor and they turned out really bad
The process is the same as with the female converter. A lot of extreme morph characters can be improved by reducing the tolerance down to 0.0005 or something like that. However, it still will not work with all shapes (Toon Duckie does not work). I have been working on a new process for an update that improves some things but it still struggles with extreme morphs (both the legacy technique and the new technique will be available as options in the update)
I have a number of characters I made using bought morphs and textures. I saved them as Scene Subsets. I was thinking of trying to convert a G3 Male saved in that way to a G8 Male. If I did so, could I then save the G8 Male with the textures, clothing, etc, as a Scene Subset? When I clicked on the G8, would he come into the scene with his textures and clothing? I'm asking because you wrote, no character preset is created and no materials are copied. So, I'm wondering, would Daz Studio remember where the materials are for that new Scene Subset G8 Male?
If this doesn't work, would I then have to redo the conversion from a G3 Male to a G8 Male each and every time I wanted to use that character?

Saving them as a scene subset works fine and in my experience loads with all the morphs and materials like any other character.
My Elijah 7 did not come out like yours at all. Tips?
What is the issue? Can you post a pic? Is it just the eye texture? Or you feel the morphs are off?
I don't think its just the eye "texture"... I think the irises are seriously deformed. Perhaps I am wrong. Are the UV's that different between the eyes of G3 and G8? Swear that I have swapped them variously. I'll post a picture later.
Well, I bought it, and I'm already having problems. I tried to use the Convert Scene Character script. The G3 (Makani) I'll try to post as a screen shot. He's not rendered. In the next screen shot, there's what's left of Makani and what happened to Michael 8. Should I have loaded the Base G8 from the Development Kit? I found where the morphs are stored in data/etc., so I guess I can delete them. But there is a character slider created in the Perameters Pane. Will that disappear if I delete the morphs, or how do I get rid of that?
Makani, the G3 was saved as a Scene Subset.
I'm using Daz Studio 4.10.0.123, Macintosh, with the Macintosh OS 10.12.6, if that helps at all.
I had some of the Mean Mugs morphs on Makani. You can see that the script took the morphs away, which is OK, because I have Makani saved as a Scene Subset. But, you can also see what happened to Michael 8.

The Convert Scene Character script copies the morphs from a character in a scene, it won't copy the textures. After conversion, I would recommend creating a new scene, loading a Genesis 8 Male, and using the slider to dial in your converted character. Then, you can use whatever materials you want, clothes you want, etc, and then save it all as a scene subset. The scene subset works normally and will remember everything (materials, clothes) so you don't need to dial in the character again.

transferred morph applied to base loaded Genesis 8 male, see the eyes.
I see what you mean There is a new process that I am working on that improves the eyes. In the meantime, I would lower the tolerance from 0.06 to something like 0.02 (or lower). I recommend deleting the morphs outside of DS; they will be in the first directory in the Content manager under data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 8/Male/Morphs/VENDOR/PRODUCT

Yes, please load the generic Genesis 8 Male to convert to. Leave both figures in the default pose and at the origin. If you delete the morphs and restart DS, the slider will disappear (the slider is the one that starts with CTRL...dsf.
EDIT: BTW, when the script ends, the G3M character will look like the generic G3M and hopefully the G8M character will look like the G3M character (except no clothes and default textures and in an A Pose now).
I'll try again. I'm guessing I should get rid of the hair, and clothes, and gens, too. Could these items have caused the distortion that occurred in the G8?
By leave each character at the origin, do you mean the hip values x, y, z, should all be at 0?
OK, it seems to have worked. Attaching screen shot. (Not a render of any kind.)
Second screen shot: doing a small render, just of the eyes, in the Screen Tab. Eyes seem OK, unless someone notices something. On to starting a new scene and applying Makani textures, etc.
(Yesterday, when I shut down, I thought I would never learn this.)
All Right! It worked. Not a render, but here's Makani on G8, with some Mean Mugs morphs (transferred along with him from G3): 3rd Screen Shot.

Yeah! I am glad it worked for you. What assumptions did I make that tripped you up? e.g., it sounds like I should put in the manual that one should load the character without clothes, T-Pose, and at origin.
I am having a hard time converting a G3 male character (Darius 7) to G8. I have played with the tolerance level from 0.0.10 to 0.060 yet the convertion looks wrong. His eyes, lips, and nose are not the same.
I have bought and installed the Genesis 3 Character UVs for Genesis 8 Male and that fixed the saems, but does not help with the facial features.
I bought this immediately, but things aren't going well. I saved a G3M character that I created as a character preset, and tried to convert it using the standard Character Converter script. It "converted," but does nothing except delete the default G8M material settings, leaving me with an unmorphed blank G8M. The original G3M preset applies just fine to G3M figures.
I assume it's my fault somewhere along the line and decide to try using the Convert Scene Character script instead with the intent of saving a subscene after. Both figures loaded nude, without hair/clothing/gens, in their respective zero poses, at origin. This works great, the G8M version of my characer is perfect, he poses beautifully, right up until I have to close and reopen the file. Then it turns into an absolute nightmare. The face turns out fine, but the body is a mess. Pretty much nothing ends up where/how it's supposed to be, even in the A-pose. It's not pretty, and posing the character just makes it worse.
So, in order for things to work, I have to convert the character (but only between characters in scene because the regular script doesn't work on the files I'm trying to use), tweak the character as needed, dress and pose the character, add everything else in the scene, and render the entire thing without ever closing Studio, or having it crash (ha ha ha), or deciding after the fact that I want to change something, every single time because things go haywire as soon as the program tries to load a scene with a converted G8M. It's one shot and done, I have to restart from zero.
Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated. The potential is amazing and I want to love it, but it's just not working for me and I can't figure out what's gone wrong.
Left side of the attachment is the character right out of the Scene Conversion script plus textures, the right side is what happens after I close the scene and then open it again. Modesty pants added after the fact.

Huh. That is strange. Can you post the Daz log of the conversion?
To prove it works for Darius, here is what I get when I convert Darius 7 (I don't remember what the tolerance level was at the time, I think the default):

If you check which morphs are being "currently used" after the conversion, and after you load it again, what has changed? How are you saving after the conversion?
Ivan 7 and Raoul for Ivan 7 was successfully converted, only Darius 7 gave me problems.
Thank you for your assistance.
I actually need the Daz log (Help->Troubleshooting->View Log File...) during the conversion. The log that is shown in the script dialog is very abbreviated to just show you what is going on, not for diagnosis.

Ok good to know, still a great product for more normal type characters, thanks
Can you use this tool to go backwards? Like converting a texture and morph from G8M to G3M?
You're welcome!
No, unfortunately not. (BTW, this tool doesn't convert textures, just copies them, and converts morphs)
I wanted to mean Lee 7 UV was wrong but was assigned by the script. I replaced "Lee" by "Kenji" text in the Actor preset.
Yikes! I am glad you clarified.

double post
The Convert Scene Character script copies the morphs from a character in a scene, it won't copy the textures. After conversion, I would recommend creating a new scene, loading a Genesis 8 Male, and using the slider to dial in your converted character. Then, you can use whatever materials you want, clothes you want, etc, and then save it all as a scene subset. The scene subset works normally and will remember everything (materials, clothes) so you don't need to dial in the character again.

Elijah uses a different UV set. If you have https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-male you can change the UV set on the textures.
