I just looked and was going to try and render something similar for you to see if it would crash on mine, I use 4.11 and didn't switch to 4.12. Do you still possibly have that version?
I've got Urban Future 7 and tried to render on 4.12. Just the set, no characters or anything. Studio didn't crash, but also didn't even try render on the card, with very little excuse for not doing so. As a whole, Studio reports the set taking 363MB of texture memory, which should easily fit on a 2080 Super with 8GB VRAM, but didn't. It also reports 45MB geometry memory consumption.) As far as I can tell, Studio 4.12 never even tried to send any part of it to the card; it reports 0 MB of materials memory consumption on the GPU. Windows itself uses 3.7 GB of the VRAM, but even so, it should still have managed the rest on the card.
From the looks of the render progress, it's also a set that will take a very long time even on a fairly powerful CPU. After 5 minutes and 200 iterations, Studio was reporting 0% completed, which is not remotely normal on this computer. An average CPU render takes about 40-45 minutes on this computer (depending on what it is, of course), so after 5 minutes, it should be reporting some percentage of completion. (NB: It took 10 minutes for it to hit 1% completion. It's just a big, difficult set to render.)
I don't have it. Just 4.12 This is a new computer, and the card needs the newer Studio I think to run.
It doesn't seem to be even trying to render. I left it to render twice while at work, and it crashes nearly immeadiatly. I ran texture minimizer and got it to run once, but never again, and it rendered badly. I can render most scenes without an issue on this new computer. It is really pretty fast.
I honestly think something is the matter with this version of studio. I have noticed that if I restart studio runs much faster, than when I run multiple renders. Its almost as if it is having a memory issue.
On the subject of Women's clothing which look pretty good on men, here is dForce Boyfriend Jeans for Genesis 8 Female.
These jeans look great on the guys, and the undress morphs look quite useful. There is both a conforming and dforce so you get both. There are also poses to hang the jeans or drape them. There are included poses for G8F to get undressed.
The fit is pretty good, but will require some tweaking and smoothing. The waist will sit high like most female clothing, so you will need to tug it down with SY Fit control unless you like the Steve Urkel look.
There is without a doubt something wrong with 4.12... Although it seems like they are claiming its not actually an issue or bug. (this is what I got out of the thread) Something about the new Iray and NVdia drivers for the new cards and Optix always being on. I dont really understand a lot of the technical side of the explanations. But before 4.12 i was able to render and sometimes would leave 5-6 renders open while i ran a new render for comparisons, now I cannot leave even 1 open. If I do the 2nd running one drops to CPU. Or if there are alot of objects in the scene. There are other issues of it dropping to CPU also from what I read on the thread. I hope they get it fixed soon or allow us to drop back to 4.11.
The Iray architecture and the drivers are not things over which Daz has any control.
Looks good!
This has been posted quite a while back, but I love it!
Thanks! I am glad you like it. I will have to do more with that effect. I have been working on other projects and haven't been around so much.
Today's release: AFE Real Male HD Expressions
This looks great folks. I love the eyebrow raise. I do that a lot with my pose, so it is great to see that here.
One thing to note: Owen's moth is bigger and higher, and doesn't take a lot of these expressions as well as a character with a standard mouth. So that might be something to consider if you use a figure with a lot of morphs. I will see how Boyd looks.... I also wish for a lot more regular expressions. Hopefully this will be popular and there will be an expansion.
This is great work. Love it.
Here is Boyd with a few more expressions.
Can you mix and match the expressions easily or does that just produce weird results?
The ad copy says you can- So I went looking. The controls aren't in with expressions so when I looked early I had no luck finding them. They are in pose control> Head. You can dial in a little or a lot. You need to set your character to sub d of 2 for the HD to view. There is also a pose control for AFE Power Pose. I am not sure.... What that does or if I need to turn it on and off. I will pull up my tester and see.
You will need to click the root node of the character for the pose controls for the product to be available. They will not show up if for example... The head is selected.
Yes, I found out by accident that several vendors have put their expressions in the root level pose controls. I wish I understood a bit better about how things in a figure are organized; I don't understand why the pose controls for the head are both at the root node and in the head, or why things can be in one place and not the other.
I am having no luck following the directions for the included skin product. I am washing out at the saving the material preset as AFE format. I wonder if this cold've been automated for the user using a script. I don't like to do tweaking.
Okay, here is an example of two poses mixed together. 60 percent rage, 20 percent fear.
People will have difficulty finding these the way they are saved, especially since you cannot find them under head if you select it.
As I understand it, AFE Power Pose is so that it can be used with Power Pose itself -- you turn that on, and then when you go to PowerPose, you can activate the expressions by moving the dots in the character's face. I never use Powerpose myself, so ... eh. It looks like there's both a slider and a preset for activating AFE Powerpose, or turning it off.
Powerpose or not, the expressions seem to be really good.
I ... *think* I understand how this is supposed to work, but we'll see. I think the provided instructions are ... unclear. If I've got this right, the steps are:
1-Do everything material that you're going to do to your character -- other scars, makeup, whatever -- and save that as a material preset, because you can't do that stuff to Auto Face Enhancer's attachment itself. (or at least, as I read the instructions, you shouldn't.)
2- Attach Auto Face Enhancer's attachment. This step is missing from the included instructions.
3 - Apply the material preset you just made to Auto Face Enhancer's attachment. This step is missing from the included instructions.
4 - Do whatever AFE options you're going to do. Do not remove the attachment; this is now a part of your character if you want to use AFE options.
5- Set your character to render SubD 2-3-4, either in parameters or using the included presets. (FWIW, when I used the SubD 3 preset included with AFE, it set the character to SubD 4.)
One thing to note: the AFE attachment interferes with hair, beard and brows and anything else you have going on with the character's head. You'll need to reset collision to go against the AFE attachment rather than the character himself.
The instructions shouldn't call it an AFE Format material preset. It doesn't seem to work that way. I suppose if you felt the need, you could deselect the arms, legs, eyes, and mouth, but since the attachment doesn't have those surfaces, it doesn't really make much difference.
Hey thanks! those instructions were much clearer. I appreciate you taking the time to write it up. I got it to work easily.
With those instructions from Vwrangler, here is Owen with two of the skin Detail enhancements. One thing to note. You need to use dials to apply details to the enhancement... (shell?) but they look 'greyed out' You need to use them anyway to make them work.
D.Master posted in their thread about saving as shape presets to make things work without the attachment (... I think) -- which actually makes much more sense than saving as material presets, since all of the details are morph sliders. I guess the attachment activates the sliders, and then they can be saved ... I have no clue.
Wow, the expressions look great!
However, the skin details without a matching expression just make them look aged. That said, it's the best aging product out there, so there's that.
I have the AFE for G8F and will definitely be buying AFE for G8M. I didn't budget though for the skin details product & the power pose product so will have to buy them as I get the money. I suppose the female product will also have a skin detail & power pose product as well. Uh, money, money, money, there it goes...
Still, it's easily the most useful product with regards to human models in the DAZ Store once you have the G8F & G8M base and the DO head, body, & expression morph products.
I prefer the expressions. I honestly don’t think I understand the skin details product.
I bought the bundle for the textures, as I love the look of the textured skin, but can't get it to work. Only advice I got from D.Master so far is that the product is for "advanced users" and I should re-install it. What's the point of a product if the creator can't even explain how to use it?
I don't think the included directions are very clear. all you do is save as material preset. Apply the shell, then select it and apply the material preset. That worked for me.
I recall when I tried it:
@gerterasmus This might be when a support ticket might help. I would certainly hope that Customer Service wouldn't just come back to you with the same "advanced user" response.
Okay, so I've just had a chance to mess around with the contents of the new character's bundle. First off is the Socks In Krokz Outfit for Genesis 8 Male. I was actually looking forward to this outfit, since it seems 'regular guy' in 'relaxation mode.' The problem I have is it just doesn't fit well, and the textures don't look like much time was spent with them (plain shirts with mostly word-processor writing).. I chose to use textures from the expansion, which when loaded has a typo. Socks in Crocs. So the textures are not in the same folder as the outfit.
The base texture is prone to blow out, and since there isn't much detail it just looks very white you can see that even in the promo. The shirt sleeves, just don't fit the guys very well, and the shorts look skirt-like and the crotch both missing and sort of funny. The socks do not fit well, and have very little detail, and the crokz, deform easily with foot poses.
The first image is how it fits Boyd out of the box.
The second image, includes adjustments. For example the shirt has been reduced -66% percent and the socks -164.53%
The outfit almost looks designed for dforce, however, the short did not take dforce well and collided together in the center creating an odd mess.
Next up is the Smart and Suave outfit and textures. Unlike the previous outfit, this fits G8Male much better. The set includes a nice ring and bracelet. The textures include some details such as a fly in the front of the tights. The outfit is very form fitting. The expansion includes a variety of textures for the shirts, and rings, and bracelet, but the pants are all dark colored and difficult for me to tell one from the other. The shoe includes a foot reset pose
