Your work is always so evocative but the image "Call to Honor" grabbed my attention and I had to let you know how much I respect and love it. I tried to find it in your gallery, but failed.
Thank you for this,
Mary
I hadn't added it to the gallery, but did for you. It is here: https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/872686/
I still have my Adobe Photoshop 4 CD I bought at the University of Texas at Dallas in 1998 but lost the very thick and heavy book that had the serial number in it. Adobe refuses to even answer any email I send them asking for a replacement serial number.
if you dont use Photoshop much and only need basic features such as opening certain files, maybe try Gimp, since it's free and open source. I believe it supports EXR formats and has equivalents for many of the functions of Photoshop. But i assume it doesnt have quite the ecosystem that Photoshop has, like Photoshop actions, brushes, plugins etc.
Personally, I dont mind paying the $15 per month (or whatever it is) for Adobe Creative Cloud. In general, I dont have a problem with subscription models for software because the initial outlay can be a lot less than if purchasing outright & subscription can be paused if not using. Plus you will always get the latest version (but maybe that's a problem if you want to download the older versions i guess). Sometimes you can find cracked torrents of the old versions online.
I have Paintshop Pro 2020 and an ancient Photoshop CS2, which I have persuaded to run on my now-wobbly Windows 7 install. But of course all the best actions, etc. require the "latest & greatest" version, which means Adobe rentware. No thanks, too much trouble especially when one is without internet, as has happened to me the one time I did try "new" Photoshop last summer. I couldn't connect for a week near the end of the trial and when I did they tried sticking me for a whole year. Eventually got it sorted but, once burned ...
Photoshop is necessary for me. I’ve tried other products but I have a huge library of actions and filters which require it. I do wish I could just purchase the 2017 version. Though. The latest few versions have changed stuff I like and for me I just want the reliable old software I am accustomed to. I don’t want constant change.
Well said, but I don't think they're listening.
Here is Owen wearing the new bruise set for Genesis 8 Male Lie Body bruises for Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 male. There are only body bruises in this set. Nothing for the face. There is even a hickey bruise which sadly, I haven't gotten to look quite the way I want just yet. =-)
Here's another rain image. I like the way the splashes fall on the character in this action.
This is Dforce Urban Ace outfit. Dforced.
One thing I notice is the necklace is oval. It is odd, because in the promos it looks round. Overall it looks pretty good. I like this, and will be using it.
Owen has a weakness for Pumpkin Spice coffee. So Boyd finds himself drinking a lot of it. Boyd likes sweet things, which is a holdover from his time as a brain. As his sense of taste was rather limited in his robotic bodies.
Boyd loves to horse around.
Oh yes, he certainly does! Parts of that outfit look familiar. Dzheng or kitbashed Vicky clothes?
Oh my!
You know, when I first saw this image, I was wondering about Boyd's sense of taste. Since he was a bot from a fairly young age, it kind of makes sense that it would be ... a bit delayed, for lack of a better way to put it. Liking really sweet things, not liking some of the stuff that adults develop tastes for, having texture issues that adults have usually gotten past, all that kind of thing. How would he handle with something like a triple cream cheese -- brie and its relatives -- that taste good but smell like feet, or fermented teas (which can smell really flowery with a slightly funky edge, but then actually taste like the filthiest feet smell)? (Seriously, fermented teas are just HORRIFYING.)
Dzheng has a new release! Chippenmale's set 2. Which includes the hat, the shirt, and the pose. I changed out the pants.
You hit the nail on the head when it comes to Boyd. As a bot, he drinks Ensure-like drinks through a butterfly like tongue that comes out of his bot-shell for drinking. They are shy about showing those, so you only see those when a brain is fully confident and relaxed. These 'shakes' are basically the essntials the human brain needs to live, in nutrient form, and since the bots only taste sweet things, we're talking strawberry, vanilla, chocolate etc. Early in their friendship, Owen, buys boyd-bot different kinds of drinks, as there are different cultural flavors you can buy, such as melon, and green tea, etc, and Boyd develops a taste for Horchata.
We also know that Boyd-bot enjoys coffee, much like other brains do. But his tastes are to drinks like tripple mocha with extra vanilla syrup.
When he is embodied in a man's body, his sense of taste is like that of a kids. Chickenfingers, shakes, etc. He's unaccustomed to all the strange tastes, and is on a restricted diet until his system adjusts to consuming solid food. He eventually branches out to Tacos.
Owen will eat anything (except tuna casserole), but is a bit of foodie. He saves his pay, and tries to go out on the town once or twice a month, to popular cuisines. Boyd can't eat that way for a few years. Fortunately, there is the kids' menu.
Eventually Boyd gets just as adventurous as Owen when it comes to food. But for a few years, he's not adventurous at all... But Owen is good natured about it, and lets him go at his own pace. Both guys like coffee drinks, although Boyd likes his much sweeter. Boyd also still drinks his ensure like drinks because sometimes human food is overpowering.
I realized that I hadn't answered this. Boyd would likely gag. Taste would likely be a sense that he would be overwhelmed by, as well as smell. I can see him likely forcing himself to try something, being overwhelmed and gagging, then being horribly embarrased about it. He wants so much for Owen to think he's sophisticated.
It is possible he can turn off his sense of taste as brains have a bit more control over their bodies than we do, but it would still be difficult to eat a lot of things texture wise- such as brussels sprouts, fish, cottage cheese, etc.
Fortunately, the military of the future, has lots of ready made, prepackaged foods like protien bars, which are probably fairly palatable and the guild larder is stocked with foods that are likely bland and or nutrient packed.
It is also possible that Boyd can jump start his induction period into food by 'pairing' with Owen, when he eats to get over his aversion, but I think for him it might be a matter of pride to do it by himself.
Normal black tea if I remember right is fermented and I'm pretty sure green tea is too (they are made from the same tea plant (which will grow up to Zone 5 for those that like evergreen plants with pretty white flowers in the autumn)). Rooibos tea also I think is fermented. However, most of the other ones I know of and drink are simply dried leaves or flowers or oils or something from the plant but not fermented (spearmint, chamomile, peppermint, mint, hibiscus, and lots of other...) I'm sure there are so many teas I've never heard of. I know in the area where my parents are from there are dozens of commonly wild and also 'heirloom plants passed from from Europe & beyond' that they used to make teas from common one or twice a year when the plant was at a certain maturity as 'health tonics'. Sassafras, wintergreen, and many others.
I've yet to try something that actually smells like old sweaty shoes although living in Switzerland I've walked in many a grocery store with those smells. I'm betting though it's the same molds and fungi involved with stinky shoes and socks as with many forms cheese making. That explains how they discovered it be accident and tried 'ruined milk' likely one winter when they were very hungry.
I bought a cheese making kit a few years ago and those sorts of cheese were made with something called rennet which is a combinations of enzymes of some sort that calfs produce to aid in digesting their mother's milk. Nowadays, rennet tends to be artificially manufactured or better, there are 'partially vegetarian (aka do diary & eggs)' rennets if you make your own cheeses.
The only fermented teas popular right now where I live are kombucha and the like. They taste bitter to me, but some people seem to like it. I try them frequently, because people seem to think I shall like them eventually. They all taste like fermented sugarless fruit juice with sour taste. They are supposed to be good for you.
I drink chamomile which I cold brew and put in the fridge in glass jars. It has anti-inflammatory properties and I like it cold. My sister likes it with Lavender, but it doesn't taste as good to me. Lavendar always tastes medicinal to me, even though I think it smells nice. Sometimes I add honey.
I don't care for the sour taste of hibiscus, and many a good tea has been ruined by its inclusion (in my opinion).
I am trying to avoid caffeinated teas, so teas that aren't herbal are out for me for now.
The vegetarian alterative to rennet is vinegar and lemon. I don't think I could ever use real rennet.
Black tea is, very very technically, rusted, of all things. (Officially, "oxidized", but rust is simply oxidized iron, so.) Green tea is simply dried tea plant leaves. Fermented black teas happen after the oxidization process. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermented_tea - note that that page says that fermentation improves the mouthfeel and taste, which means that his page was clearly written by PR flacks for the tea industry, because that is an outright hideous lie.) Kombucha is, I suppose, a different type of fermented tea, where the fermentation medium is kept with the tea instead of dried or however that works.
There are a couple of sort-of-fermented teas that are, or were, commercially available in the US. I don't know if Rolling Thunder is sold any more; it used to be made by Celestial Seasonings. Had a picture of a bison on the box. In my humble opinion, this is because Rolling Thunder tasted like a herd of wee tiny bison had wandered across your tongue, done something TRULY UNSPEAKABLE -- yes, every single one of the entire herd -- and then wandered off somewhere. There's one called Awake, by Tazo, that tastes like a herd of bison wandered onto your tongue, did something TRULY UNSPEAKABLE, camped out for a while, dropped a few calves, wandered off somewhere, then came back and DID IT ALL AGAIN.
OMG!!! "wee tiny bison doing unspeakable things in your mouth"ROTFLMAO!!
LOL. No. I think Boyd bot probably would not be able to taste the horrors of fermented bison tea. Boyd the man, would turn off his sense of smell thus nullifying his sense of taste somewhat before consuming the tea or giving it to Owen to drink. Owen probably likes it because it is healthy, and it probably tastes better than the average MRE
Yes, I was pretty shocked when I read about real rennet too. It's getting easier & easier to be vegan even though I've long since figured out a vegan menu I can afford (aka cook it myself and if it's got a vegan / GMO / organic label then I can't afford it).
If you have one of those Mr Coffee Expresso machines ($40 at WalMart) or similar they make good tea from tea bags or loose tea too. You can use the tea bags 2 or more times. It seems to get more of the flavor out of them.
The camomile I found really does soothe for sleep. I don't drink it every night though so it keeps those properties. I drink mint, rooisbos, spearmint, ...
I have to say thank you to vwrangler for that vivid description of "Rolling Thunder ,and Awake teas" I was just getting ready to go to bed when I read that ,and it did just crack me up completely , cause I could picture Boyd wipeing "wee tiny bison "off of his tongue!! I went to bed giggling. I think I've gotten to the point where I consider both Boyd and Owen as "people" which is due to how complete you SN create and discribe their world and lives ......keep going
Aww thanks Carrie58! =-)
On the subjects of men's clothing here we have: Force Back To Class for Genesis 8 Male. I was dead set on not liking this based on the promos. The cloth doesn't hang right for this type of shirt. The drape is a bit too.... Silk like rather than the stiffer cotton this is supposed to be. The cuffs look odd on the pant leg and the shoes seem weird.
So I rendered it, and changed my mind. The outfit, does still have all those things, but the expansion texture makes it worth it.
It includes this nice sleeveless option. Another thing to note is the set includes earrings. They seem to distort into an oval shape on Boyd though, for some reason.
This would make nice athletic wear.
Poke through did occur on the pants and, I would definitely replace the shoes. Toe positions distort them too much for my tastes.
Someone asked in the Yuzuru thread if parts can be removed from the Windwalker outfit. The answer is YES! to some degree. The 'laces' can be gotten rid of as can the arm straps. I left the buttons because I thought they looked good. I then recolored the flap and the hoodie a dark knit color.
I'd wondered that myself, thought it might be doable. Now, in my wishlist it goes. Maybe even in my cart if the budget holds out, those PC for a day sales are killing me!
Here's the dforce Pop Style outfit for Genesis 8 Males. (Yuzuru must like red, as this is the second red outfit in his bundle). This is another set that requires dForce to fit properly. The drape and pants will balloon if you do not.
It fits well on Boyd, and would suit a character who needs roomy clothing for action moves, or a female character. I see outfits like this at the office for women all the time. From the waist up, the look is quite common and popular.
The outfit has more realism with the drape than other outfits in the set.
