A quick heads up for the Grab Bag sale today: If you've been thinking about buying Carrara 8.5 Pro, now's the time. With 3 or more Grab Bag items in your cart, the price goes down to $13.65. And it comes with 30 products, one Carrara shader set, and 29 assorted Genesis products.

(I bought this years ago, and have yet to actually use it. But it's there if/when I decide to learn. And I've used the Genesis products in the meantime…)

ETA: Bryce 7 Pro is also in the Grab Bag. The price goes down to $4.19 with three or more Grab Bag items in the cart…

LOL I had to go to my serial numbers to see which ones of those I have (and the versions.) I have them both, but never use them- I'm in the same boat. :)

Be sure and test the Grab Bag items in the cart, discounts vary.

You gotta see this if you haven't. Sand art!

@icedragonart    Heads up, they adjusted the track WEST last time, and west AGAIN at the 4pm. You should have gotten a hurricane warning alert on your phone (but since you're out of towners, don't know how that works.)  The track is inching over toward us. They mention in the discussion at NHC.NOAA.GOV  that the hurricane is wobbling. That's not good.

Wow, how about sharing the link to that picture of yours on Pensacola Peer?

I think we must of went to Destin once during a hurricane nearby because we got stung bad by high winds and sands. The heaviest rains I've ever been in though was when I was a kid & lived in Orlando, Florida. Incredibly you could not see your hand if you held it directly in front of your eyes and that went on for 10 - 15 minutes straight down out of the sky as if a giant Orlando sized bucket lost it's bottom dumped it's water all at once!

Me too, or at least I've never used Carrara to render anything. But it's much more flexible than Studio in terms of the types of file it's willing to import - so I've used it to import 3D objects saved in obscure formats and then save them as something Studio can open. And the Genesis products have come in handy too (essentially it's the V5 and M5 pro bundles for half the price of either of them).

We are paying close attention. We are actiually packed up and ready to go at a moments notice at this point.  We booked a cheap hotel 35 miles inland just in case. We snagged the last one available.  I'd rather have it and not need it than not have it and have no where to go.  If we don't need it, its not a huge loss, as we are staying here where we are now for free (well, in exchange for the work we did of course).  We have extra water and enough food if we end up staying, so I think we are as prepared as we can be.

@ IceDragonArt: Please stay safe and seriously consider evacuating if asked to do so. If evacuating do so as early as possible. The roads can quickly become jammed.

I tried Carra once and the UI would actually freeze up on me in the viewport. i have a 16GB RAM, i7 with intel HD Graphics 4000 and Windows 10 and when Cararra was last released it was about the time that HW was brand new although Windows 10 didn't exists yet so Carrara shouldn't be locking up on me 8in the viewport)

I am SICK AND TIRED of Daz Studio crashing. It's just ridiculous the studio is SO faulty. I've had crashes on every render the past week.  I'm even getting to 100% render and it's crashing at the last few seconds. The closeup of the outfit is a fast screenshot before it crashed. I'm not doing many renders if this keeps happening, I am not sitting here babysitting and screenshotting before crashes. And NO, Save Last Render is grayed out as an option when the studio has crashed.  Bug reports are a waste of time, we have all reported this version is just awful over and over again.

The last render (last Iray iteration) will be saved as r.png in the DS temp folder if DS crashes, but it will be deleted next time you open DS so you must grab a copy of it first if you want to keep it. This is a bit troublesome so I wrote a small app which will automatically copy the saved render to another folder first, so you have a backup, and then start DS.

Just extract the zip to Desktop. Before using it you must configure it: keep Shift pressed when running it, to open the configuration window.

After that, if DS has crashed just run this app and if there is a saved render it will notify you and copy it to the backup folder before starting DS. Or use it to always start DS, it will do that whether there is a render to save or not.

We will leave as soon as they tell us its time to go.  Although if it looks like its going to get bad, we will leave earlier. Its the weirdest thing, no one seems to be the least bit concerned.  No on is putting up shutters or boarding up their windows, nothing.  Its just ....bizarre.

@icedragonart  LOLI was out with the horses all evening,   a lot of people were riding and chatting about mostly other things. Hurricane old-timers.

The gas pumps have the nozzles covered in plastic bags to indicate no gas, shelves are sold out, the typical prep stuff- but unles you're in a direct hit, you don't mess with windows. Let me give you a tip- follow the tropicaltidbits.com (Levi is the best at explaining WHY it will do what it will do) and just note- if this thing speeds up, you're in more trouble as it will stay on a north and west path. If it slows down, it's going more east. )     PNJ.com  has good articles (Pensacola News Journal)

I really think you'll be just fine where you are. It will really have to change for it to jump over to you, and 50 mph or 75mph winds are easily handled by structures here. Just as long as you aren't ON the beach. Of course, I didn't leave for either of the Category 3 hurricanes (9 months apart) so I'm biased about staying put during these storms. (And would stay again- but NOT if I were at a beach area.)

It IS saying perhaps 75mph sustained winds for our area, but after going through Hurricane Nate and getting 15mph winds and light drizzle (instead of 8-12")  I'll believe it when I see it.

I can't remember what year it was, and it's on an old laptop somewhere. It is in one of the previous threads, but without the year, I'm a bit lost. I think it was Hurricane Debbie but I'm guessing. I  will see if I can find it :)

Thanks very much! I like walking under peers as they have so much sea life to look at.

That's from Part 1 page 16, long before I knew of this thread. I can see why they used it, great drama!

Hope the worst part of the hurricane stays on a track away from both of you.

Funny thing about Novica's picture, I remember, now that I've seen it here, seeing it before because I remember how pretty the picture is (deceptively so  if you are a sea critter living in that environment). Like Novica though I didn't remember what year or the hurricane name until I read the article accompanying it. I take more interest in hurricanes because I have nices, nephews, and cousins up and those those costs from Texas to Florida to North Carolina and Virginia. Oddly when I lived in Florida & Georgia for like 5 years total a hurricane didn't come close that I can remember although it snowed a couple of times (same year it snowed in the Bahamas) and much later in years at AIT there was a blizzard in Augusta.

Just a quick update, we have evacuated and will be staying in hotel about 34 - 40 miles inland until thursday.

Smart move. It is best to be safe, especially when you have no hurricane experience and weren't in your own home anyway.

@icedragonart  You went to the left of the path, right?   :)    (couldn't resist)  "Hi, we evacuated GEORGIA..." or "The Carolinas are so prety this time of year!"

  • IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,548

Lol yes we are on the left.  Settled in and relatively comfortable so far. just starting to see some dark clouds toward the south.  No rain or anything so far, not even much wind..I'm sure that will change at some point tomorrow.

Just back from the barn, we're helping with evacuee horses. Two gorgeous Fresians (HUGE, think black LIppizans) are quite at home. They are saying to stay off the road starting 3am because the 50 mph winds will start. So all the critters are enjoying the balmy breeze and 77 degrees, munching hay, while that wind monster churns toward Panama City.

OH NO. Going to be a CATEGORY FOUR at landfall. National Hurricane Center 10pm bulletin.

...decreasing vertical wind shear along with the shear vector shifting from current west-northwesterly to a less
hostile southwesterly component, which will be more along Michael's forecast track. As a result, Michael is now
explicitly forecast to become a category 4 hurricane before landfall occurs.

LOL reading my comment, it sounds like the Lippizans are saying to stay off the road!   Smart horse drivers.

  • OOPs just noticed we both misspelled Friesians

Friesians is one of the most beautiful horse breeds in my opinion, never met one in real though *sad* a little jealous at you for that Novica :)
