Cool. I can picture it. Cheers!
@destinysgarden I always like tropical prints and beachy shirts. Like surf shop shirts with scuba divers on the front, someone surfing atop a crashing wave, with a blazing sun behind them, touristy type shirts. Marlins jumping out of the water, boats out at sea or reeling in a big fish. Type in "tourist beach shirts" and you'll see what I mean.
I agree about the kids clothing though. The huge toon prints are good too. I still remember a baby skunk that said "I'm a little stinker" that my mom kept for ages!
I did a quick check and the vendors from the Going Gets Rough, Wet Look, and Bestie scrolling banner sales aren't in the sales for this weekend. I'm assuming any other banner sales won't have overlap but I'm going offline (2:15am) as I need to get on a more regular sleep schedule.
Sad news in the Pensacola newspaper- our Sears is closing. There goes an iconic institution. It was the anchor store at the huge mall when it was all enclosed, we have a Burlington, Toys R Us (which is also closing) JC Penny which won't be far behind in closing. Depressing. Remember the teenage days of going shopping in the mall with friends? When malls were enclosed you didn't have to worry about how blistering hot or snowy outside it was, you could spend the day at the mall. Now things are just shipped to your door, and pretty soon it will mostly be done by drones.
It's sad that those store that are failing couldn't or wouldn't compete on price terms with WalMart, Amazon, Target and the like because shopping in those stores used to be fun. Somehow they got the mistaken believe they could present themselves as upscale luxury goods for the same merchandise being retagged and relabeled and failed.
@destinysgarden - What about some shader packs focused on fabrics common in menswear? It's hard enough to find good clothing for men; being able to easily reshade that clothing would be amazing.
I'd also love it if someone made some toile shaders. They're not so great for modern clothing, but they were really popular in the 18th century. And toile prints have been trendy on and off since for things like curtains, wallpaper, bedding, etc, as well as all kinds of d.i.y. projects . They were also commonly used in endpapers for hardback books in the early-mid 2oth century - I know the Nancy Drew ones are especially iconic.
I'm surprised that it took so long
Remember Montogomery Wards back in the day I was looking at VCR's in Wards and had a choice between Magnavox,Sharp and Wards own brand all with different prices with the Sharp being the cheapest after a little research I found out that all three were identical (same model) and from the same manufacturer but were priced hundreds of dollars different
Those are great ideals.
Thanks! Every time I'm away from here for a short time, there are over 150 new posts! Thanks for the info. I already have Warrior Wet Hair for G3M and may try it on G3 F and G8 F (I create mostly females, just a few males!)
I'm a bit behind here, but here is what I got during the Girl 8 sale. I went over on a few items so I could use the $6.00 coupon.I was hoping the iconic deal with $10 off $50 Daz Originals would work but it only worked partially, zeroing out the G2 products but not pulling from G3 products so the full $10 did not come off, so I deleted the iconic item and used the $6 coupon instead. I have to say, it was starting to get difficult to find things I wanted or didn't have. I bought some things that ended up under 10 cents, even though I didn't need them, but thought, why not?
@wonderland You scooped up some good stuff!
The store experience isn’t what it was. We still have a Sears in my area but it’s pretty trashed and the bathrooms are pretty nasty. People throwing used toilet paper anywhere but the toilet. It does a good deal of business with locals but lines are long due to its centralized checkout policy. Clothing for women is thin and higher priced than clothing in the same style for the men. Things like bedding has become poor quality artificial material that doesn’t last.
mens clothing is still pretty goood. Heavy quality fabrics made for workers but women’s eh... cheap and overpriced
I go there for basics and for things like replacement ovens and fridges and jackets and winter clothing which I wear year round...since it’s cool here but I can remember a time when sears is fun and clothing bought there would hold up. A lot of it is still okay but if I can order from their online store I will. I have no hankering for the store experience at sears due to the poor sanitation crowding and lines.
Plus the hours are weird. That store doesn’t even open until 11 am.
I don't know if you have a Marshalls in your area but you can get some great deals on designer clothes, sometimes Ross too, but Ross is better for things like bedding or decorative household organizing stuff. But who has money for RL stuff when we are spending it all on our virtual people? They don't know ho good they've got it LOL.
I’m not a fancy dresser. At work it’s pants and the corporate hoodie with company logo and comfortable shoes sometimes a shirt not safe for work hidden underneath. If I have to go to a meeting it’s a nice pantsuit, At home it’s it’s the same pants and T-shirt’s with kittens or uniforms and flannel pjs.
I work in a cubicle in an old military building and talk to people about their computer problems all day. I don't meet the public, and thus, we don't really have a dress code. Its a call center.
I am picky about my sheets and buy expensive ones. We have Ross and Marshall’s and I like Ross but usually I buy sheets online. I like warmth and comfort and eBay has good deals.
I tend to buy men’s clothing or unisex clothes thing often due to my tall kinda straight build and the better quality.. Many styles for men look fine on women and are warmer too and better made. I’m too Scottish to pay more for a shirt just because it’s marketed for women plus I don’t like thin artificial fabrics or plunging necklines. I like stuff that’s thicker so I stay warm becaus here in the pacific north west it’s usually flannel and jean weather. What is the point of a warm shirt if half of it is gone at the neckline.
LOL, I'm in opposite world. I live in sunny L.A. and I work from home in free t-shirts I got from conventions or events and leggings or shorts or no pants if the T is extra large but I go out at night a lot to trendy events or on dates, so I NEED some of Vicky's hot wardrobe but all my money goes to her. It's like having a child!
I'm lucky men's styles haven't changed much. I haven't bought anything new in 15 years, except tennis shoes, which last don't even last me one light use mowing season no matter how schiky-miki the brand name and quality is supposed to be, so I buy $15 off brand shoes at WalMart. I still have clothing from 40 years ago that holds up better that the same style if I were to buy it again in the store today.
A high school friend that worked at K-Mart way back when we was in high school told me about the same sort of behaviour you were complaining about in the Sears bathrooms too so that's nothing new I suppose. It does cause me to avoid those places' bathrooms. It's so abnormal to behave like that it sounds more like disgruted employees trying to ruin business than customers.
I'm in the PNW as well, a hundred or so miles south of KyotoKid, down I-5. Up until a few years ago, I wore blue jeans and t-shirts most of the time. A nasty bout with contact dermatitus, (caused by the then new front-loading HE washer not getting all the laundry soap out of the clothes!) has me now wearing a lot of soft fleece, though I'm still wearing the t-shirts. Most of the time, a heavy flannel shirt works for a jacket. Cheaper than a real jacket, Cheaper than most digital clothing here at Daz, for that matter. I also wear mens or gender-neutral stuff as the women's versions are so overpriced. (I buy irregular t-shirts online, in bulk, for both hubby and me. Leaves us more money for important things, like food, or the mortgage! lol)
Our Sears is ultra clearn and opens at 9am so I'm not in the same boat. If ours was like what you described, it would deserve to tank. Yours sounds yukky and there's no excuse for large chain stores to have those kinds of bathrooms. (or anywhere else.) Lol the thought that just flashed through my mind- I remember a long time ago, being highed ticked off at an airport bathroom that was PAID only- so I simply ducked under the bathroom door (like everyone else, I might add) and refused to pay 25 cents for a public service facility. Those quickly went by the wayside, too. Other people simply waited until they boarded the plane and used that lavoratory. There was always a line and I think the airlines said, "ENOUGH!"
I can't remember the last time I saw a had-to-pay-for toilet. Anyone recall seeing one or have them in your vicinity?
They can easily be found in Europe. Often it is a woman inside or outside the restroom collecting the fee, rather than a coin slot in the door.
Ours is partly cultural custom problem.
In some cultures the proper thing to do is to dispose of toilet paper- not in the toilet but in a bin nearby. This is to prevent the toilets from clogging and is what they do in their culture. Unfortuantely, it creates a health hazard when this custom is followed in bathrooms that can safely contain it and do not have bins. Sears puts up signs. But they don't always help.
I tend to drink coffee so I need to use bathrooms. So places with unclean bathrooms are places I tend to avoid.
When I lived in Switzerland the main train station in Zurich had and probably still has a McClean. It's a chain of pay toilets all over Europe. You both are expected to pay the attendant 2 Swiss Francs and then another 2 Swiss Frances to go past the turnstyles to the areas with the toilets.
Last, and only time actually, I saw of pay toilets in the US was the late 70s or early 80s at a very rural location at a Roses Department Store. I couldn't believe they wanted 10 cents to get in being a kid and having never seen such a thing before.
Sorry I was out all day. No they are not difficult at all. GI Domes are one click, it loads both lights and a background (the background usually matches the thumbnail pretty well, its just colors, some of the swirled together) I do 90% of my rendering with draw dome off which means I only use the lights and not the backgrounds most of the time. He has three sets and I use every one of them. All the time lol.. Tonal rage is another one that pretty easy, mostly point and click and then there are adjustments you can make but I got it as a beginner and it was pretty self explanatory.
Not sure how wide-spread it was and I beleive they ahve dropped it now, but at a few main tarin stations in London youhad topay 20p to enter the toiltes - the gents at least, I did not check the ladies ;)
It's a long-standing thing - hence "spending a penny" (though inflation has kicked in since those days).
Oh, I know that, it's just taht a fair few years ago I was 'caught short' as they say up at ... not sure which station and found I nedded to cough up 20p before being admitted; and that had never been required before.
It's generally the stations in central London (and maybe other city centres, I've not visited many by train recently) - but the smaller local stations tend to be free. I think it was the sheer number of people (and not necessarily rail cutomers, just passers by) that made upkeep costs too high for the train companies to manage.
I remember Germany had restrooms you had to pay to use. But that was many years ago. And I don't remember if it was every city we went to or not.
I seem to recall reading, or hearing, a few years back that they had removed the fee to pee :)
According to this, it's being phased out with the last ones next year: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43253389
Always reassuring to know that (on this at least) I am not losing what little is left of my mind
Lorenzo for Genesis 8 Male(s) COMING SOON
Top Fade Hair and Beard (Genesis 8 Males)
Coming to the store in the near future. Meet Lorenzo for Genesis 8 Male. I'm just getting started testing him for DarwinsMishap, he's got wonderfully detailed skin markings, even a horse bite! Check out DM's thread to see a lot more of this cool guy!
Now for the product showcasing- if you want a neat kitbash, put Dark Prince Outift (Gen8M) and Demon Master Outfit (Gen8M) together. Remove the Demon Master necklace as that just won't work, and don't use the pants from Dark Prince. Scale up the shoulder pads. Take off the arm chains from Dark Prince, even when scaled up they won't work.
The circle is off center so you have the chain on the backside floating in space. It will work if shooting strictly from the front (and kinda cool to have a chain on the sleeve.) The tips of that chest thingie may poke through the coat a tad (and it's tiny) so be sure and look for that and postwork it out.
Lighting is #20 from Pro-Studio HDR Lighting System with my lights added in (a front distant, back left distant (our left, as we look at it) and one of the Dramatica lights (I moved slightly) from the back left. I had been using distant lights as a gentle fill and had rather forgotten about those. I also added photometric spotlights for the cheek on the left. There's three lights contributing to that muted effect of that left cheek (our left) and to get that particular eye shadow where his iris isn't totally blackened out.
TIP: If you aren't happy with how the light is affecting your character, particularly top lighting shining down- tip their head back a bit instead of fiddling with the lights all the time. I know when lights aren't quite the way I want them, the first instinct is to work with the light, when a slight head tip, tilt, or twist may give just the look I want.
