Cute, Saph!  You know, maybe with the 3DL system you could put one of the 3rd generation eye materials on him that have 3DL so you won't have the black eye effect in your renders?  Then you could go back into the material settings and change out the UV and texture maps to G8's (or his)?  Maybe that would help.

That is exactly what I did and still the eyes turn out black not sure how I could fix that?

    Always happy to learn!

Also, I like it when skins come without hair. I tend to make (half) elven characters and often spend a lot of time dehairing skins for them. Would be fun to learn more about making my own and not have that headache ;)

@Saphirewild, The Genesis 3 Base Male, (and female,) load 3DL materials by default. If you open the Starter Essentials in Smart Content, you can find the eyes separately under Materials. Apply any of those to Mason, and that should set the Iris, Pupil and Sclera to 3DL materials. There are also three presets for reflections. Apply one of those to set the Eye Moisture to a 3DL texture as well. If you select both the figure and the eyelashes addon before applying the reflection, the eye moisture under the eye will also get the 3DL texture at the same time, but you may want to remove the map that creates the reflection.

    Hope this helps.

We briefly interrupt this thread for a few Leading Men 2 dudes

First, the defaults, full body (and the pose is for something else I'm working on that's supposed to be sort of Russian Constructivist):

    Leading Men 2

    And the headshots:

    leading men default headshots

    And now with some tinkering:

    leading men lunge

    and headshots:

    leading men morphed headshots

For the lower two images, with Pieter and Ray, I was trying a little to make them look like they might be brothers, which is why they have some similar morphs, as well as each other's. (In the third image down, Pieter is in character as the disapproving older brother.) The Christian and Edward textures are so different that they fight trying to do that, I think. I was a bit surprised that each of those morphs made Ray a bit stockier -- I didn't think of any of them as all that beefy, but that's what happened. And I think I accidentally made Pieter look a lot more like the middle aged version of the person who inspired him, which was absolutely not what I was aiming for. With Minjoon, I was trying to make him longer and leaner (he looks kind of improbable, actually). And with Mateo, I just leaned into the Diego texture with his morph, and I also wanted to see how well Dain would combine with ... well, anyone, really. The one issue that popped up there was that Mateo actually had fairly substantial trapezius muscles already, and when Dain got added into the bunch, his neck basically disappeared, so I wound up dialing those out.

(Complete side note: the Backlight hair shaders appear to be well-named, judging from what they did to Pure Hair Sleek on Ray.)

Very cool! Thank you for showing these

I looooove the Nino morph, might get the product for that alone :)

I have to say, the promo pics don't really do a great job of showing us the features of Ray and especially Min Joon.

    Thank you, Hylas.

The artistic renders of the promos for each model were to accompany the utility promo inserts to show how people can use them; the full utiltiy promos were to show off the actual sculpts.  I liked the idea, and have done the same in my first set.

    Hi all!

It's been a minute. Just checking in; how is everyone doing?  We're ok, though I do have to go outside to the store to pick up meds for my partner, it'll be the first time in a week that I've left the house.  Going prepared; taking gloves in a ziplock with a bag to put them in when I pull them off, Chlorox wipes for the few groceries I have to pick up to wipe down before putting in the car, and my military grade riot gear gas mask with specialized filters (they remove toxins, chemicals, organic pollutants/disease, etc.).

The looks I'll get should be kinda fun. XD

I will be updating the art ideas soon; I have multiple projects going, so Mikhail's project should be rounding back into play tonight.

Would you consider a Character Actor counterpart to your Leading Man series, to bring the Steve Buscemis and Clint Howards of the world to Daz life?

  • nonesuch00nonesuch00 Posts: 18,076

Good luck. I have only a builder's gas mask. I haven't actually used it though not even to sand as I have a regular mask to keep most of the sanding dust out. I take those little pocket sized tissues paper with me to the store as I can't afford or find those surgical masks or surgical gloves that are throwaways that hospitals & such use.

I think clorox wipes would be great in a pocket tissue sized containers but am unaware of any products made like that. You could cut your full size Clorox Wipes into 4 quarters and put them in a pint size zip lock freezer bag.

I may consider this- I have for a while, actually.  It will depend on when I may have time. Even under the shelter in place order, we are still working (the day job) from home, so by five in the evening I'm pretty tired of staring at this screen. lol

Yeah, I thought of that as well-but since I will have to wipe everything down again (to be sure) once I get home as well as the interior and areas of the exterior of the car (Sounds like a CSI episode) since there are idiots out there actually going around spitting and wiping it onto car handles and crap, I am just gonna bring the whole thing with me.  Ended up not going yesterday- was too tired.  Gonna have to today, though.

I did manage to get the skin layers from the previous shots onto the MR that I had built; I will go through the process when I work on the facial textures. The following is a series of mini-renders; notice the area at the neck.  This is going to have to be fixed.  I've already carefully worked the clone brush over the area to fix the stretching on the diffuse, but I have to do the same for the bump maps.  The trick is to line up the blasted stubble with the diffuse texture so he doesn't look diseased. lol

You'll notice the red lines in the first one; this is due to the lighting and the hair prop reacting badly-so he went bald after that one.  All of the mini renders took about three minutes (Mind you, I saved about .... 60).  I did blend out the areas around the shoulder/arm seams as well as the leg and head seams to even out a little of the coloring.  I also finished up the projection mapping of the pelvic region of the genital prop to match the torso textures.

I will post more, and some screen shots of this technique at a later time. :)

You can also throw your post-outing clothes in the dryer and set it to high heat.

I've heard that as well, but since the two of us both have immuno-compromised systems (his is worse than mine, considering the Hashimoto's he has) and he's diabetic, and I'm on blood pressure meds- we are both high risk. I ended up having to go back yesterday evening after the work from home stint for meds and Thursday for a bunch of things to store (dry goods, meat for the freezer, that sorta thing) so ..that process was all over again.

This is from the Colorado government site and how to make your own mask and how to clean it. It has a pocket for a filter to be inserted. If you have a sewing machine, maybe that will help? Make a group of them, so each time you go in and out, the one worn goes into the wash, while the filter is reused. https://www.coloradomaskproject.com/resources-partners

Thank you for the tip, memcneil!

Well, since Dasan 8 has been released, I can share some WIPs of mine of my character for him-Chayton.  These were some testers, as I just finished his skin a bit ago and am working on the additions, but it will give you the idea of his look anyway.

Also started work on tattoos. Facial tat tester:

OH WOW, Chayton is drop dead gorgeous!

But I see basically nothing of Dasan in him... makes me wonder why he's an add-on character?

Wishing you and your partner all the best re the pandemic... heart

Ok, now that I realise that Dasan is based off Wes Studi, who is a Native American person, I understand what's going on here laugh

Finally- Chayton is ready for testing; as soon as I hear back from the person the randomizer chose, I will post the name here as well.  ONTO ...promos.  XD

I just want to say neither DarwinsMishap or I will be responsible for anyone passing out, Please sit down before viewing!!

This guy renders beautifully!  This is out of the box using Boss Pro Lighting the Dramatic RT Full View.  The only thing done in image editor was to add my signature.  Everything else I left exactly as it rendered.  Will work on some more tomorrow afternoon when I get home.
