First render I feel comfortable sharing: 80's Female Rocker
I've been playing with Daz Studio for about a year, doing different things and learning. This is the first render, a work in progress that I feel comfortable sharing. It's of an 80's female rocker. I've used a lot of different products from here and elsewhere. I'm not happy with the amp--I have a JCM 800 and this model is missing piping around the head grille cloth and other things. Things I need to do is get a decent mic stand/mic, position monitors, get a pick, etc, I spent a lot of time posing the left hand so it is in a barre chord shape (ring finger is barring, too!).
Please feel free to critique and comment. I'm recovering from my second cervical spine surgery since October 24, 2017 so I have time to learn. I've also got another version of this where the figure is playing a lead run, so I can share that too if interested.
Thanks for looking,
Scott

If we all waited for that level of acomplishment, this would be an empty place! My only critique is that her right foot, on our left, seems to go into the floor. Or is it just hidden in darkness?
Good luck with your surgery recovery, too.
looks good
Thank you so much! I'll check on the right foot, :)
Thank you for the well wishes, too.
Scott
I'm very impressed.
Thanks nonesuch and magicjava.
It occured to me that perhaps showing the full sized png might be better. Also the guitar, strap and amp were imported via OBJ files-I redid some surfaces, so they may be off,
Attached is the full sized render, now
She looks like Tina Marie, well as best as I can remember from 1 music video I saw of Tina Marie.
That is really so nice! I think her foot is fine. It is just lost in the shadows. Do you have a Daz gallery? If not, you should start one with this image.
I hadn't thought of that! I just looked at "Lovergirl", I see what you mean.
Thank you! How do I go about creating a gallery? :)
Click the little blue man in the upper right corner of the forum web page. The select My Gallery.
I created a gallery. I'm not sure it works correctly, but we'll see. Thank you.
Scott
Hope to see more with that attention to detail!
I hope to upload more in the coming days. I have some things to figure out, the most daunting right now is how to get a horizontally brushed metal surface on the control panel of the amp. Then comes a pedal board with some period appropriate pedals, or a rack.
Scott
It looks really good!
Great work, lighting is spot on with that.eerr..spot light, cast a great shadow of the guitar's head. You are beter at doing 'scenes' thani am am ( I stick to portraits lol)
Keep it up.
Thank you, Worlds_Edge!
Scott
LOL! Thank you, TheMonk! Your portraits are super impressive--I really like everything about them!

Here's the lead run, full size work in progress. I tried to use a D-Former on the D string but it didn't work as intended. String bends are likely to be another thing to overcome.
Scott
This is great and the posing on her hands is impressive!
Thank you so much, Sonja! I looked at your site and I am blown away. I can only dream that one day I'll be fractionally as great as you!
Scott
Here is a change to the lead run render. I moved the guitar closer to the body, redid the hands, and added the tail guitar strap (the strap is important because a self made wireless tx will be on the strap). I need to find a really good, scaleable guitar cable to run from the guitar to the wireless tx pack. If anyone knows of one, please let me know. I've looked around and haven't found one, yet.

PS One thing I noticed: The inlays are all messed up--they're not on the right frets. :) I may just take them out.
Awww thank you very much! Don't be too impressed, it doesn't show the many many not so great ones that I've produced as well lol. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work! And if you have any questions, your in the right forums to ask them, there is a super group of people who hang out here and all of them are more than willing to help. I know they shortened my learning curve quite a bit!
You're quite welcome! Sincerely, you are an incredible talent!
Yesterday, I overdid it so I paid the price--sitting and sleeping in a recliner. I'm doing much better today, but will limit my time in Studio because pain sucks! :)
I have a question. If I want to shorten a cable and change the bend of it, should I use the geometry editor? I've tried it. I can cut out the section between the connectors, but how do I join the two parts?
Thanks,
Scott
Well you certainly made my day!
I seem to be totally unable to sleep in my recliner but my husband does it every night lol. Not all night but he regularly naps in his, I have no idea how he does it! He does work a physical job but stll!
This hobby does have a tendency to suck one in, I've been know to look up and go wait, how did it get to be 2 am?
I also wanted to mention that a really good place for learning resources, tips and generally really good information is in the New User Contest & Events threads. Even if you aren't comfortable joining in, there is a wealth of knowledge and links to tutorials, etc for every aspect of using Daz from composition to lighting to posing etc etc. I spent the first year here in that forum and it really made a huge difference in how quickly I was able to figure things out in the program.
Great work!
I'm forced to sleep in a recliner because of my most recent cervical spine (posterior) surgery on January 30. I'm recovering, but if I overdo it like I did yesterday, I pay for it. I haven't slept normally in a bed since the night before my first cervical spine (anterior) surgery on October 24. I can't wait to be able to lay down and sleep normally.
I also have to limit my time using Daz because I have problems with both hands as a result of surgery. My ring finger on my right hand doesn't work right and I have numb fingers on my left hand. I've been told all that will clear up but it will take time. Not having both surgeries was not an option because of pain. So, I'm really getting into Daz.
Thank you for the encouragement, Sonja. I will see if there are tutorials on using the geometry editor so I can do what I need to do with cables--there are going to be lots of them--to make this scene as realistic as possible. I do plan on adding other figures, as well. I'd also like to add a lot of stage lights with various colored gels to add to the realism. Clearly, with my physical limitations right now, all this is going to take time.
Scott
Thank you, Rakuda! :) You've got talent!
Scott
I sincerely hope that you recover quickly and well! At least Daz will provide a some distraction and help keep you from going totally crazy while you heal
Thank thank you, Sonja. I hope I didn’t make you feel badly when I explained my situation. If so, please accept my most humble apology.
Today, when able, I investigated how to modify the cables I have. Looks like I’m going to have to convert them to figures the use bones to get the positioning I need.
There is a lot to learn!
Scott
PS When I played in bands cables were real pains, too! ;)
