Having the eye target widget part of the model makes no sense. It would more useful as a separate figure that could be located where ever you want the a character to look, like parenting to a camera.

My Idea exactly. Still think its a idea that could be very useful. With the Proper Scripting it could auto load with the Selected Figure following the targets. Now Multi figures would need a Point at I think...

Hmm.. Why do I always get a cool idea when I'm working on like 8 projects at once?

And good evening Novica! :) Home from work, ate and 3 days off! Yay me! LOL
Hope the babies enjoyed the corn! Give them scratched between their ears and pets under their chins for me. :) My kitties love that so I figure baby deer should too. LOL

For your last question... My "My Library" folder is on my C drive and is about 65gb large. And then I have about 15 runtimes on externals linked in too. DS opens in seconds so I don't think it slows down at all. I never remove anything. I'd never find it again or remember I have it! LOL Sometimes I unlink a runtime if I haven't used it for a long time like if it's older Poser content and I have newer DS stuff that takes alot less fiddling with to get looking good in DS, but that's about it.

Now for re-organizing... I re-organize almost everything! LOL
Disclaimer: This is more for DS type files since that's what I use most. For the Runtime folder I usually leave Figures in figures and poses in Poses, etc. and just rename them to what makes sense to me. We never used to be able to move them, though I think I read we can now but I'm not sure at all. I'm sure someone will come along to clarify that.

So... I buy a genesis outfit bundle that has clothes and hair and poses and props.Let's say the Deer bundle :) The clothes are People\genesis\clothes\deer outfit and the hair is in People\genesis\hair\deer hair etc. I move the Deer Hair folder into the Deer outfit folder and so on until finally inside the Deer Outfit folder there's the Deer Hair, Deer Poses and Deer Props all neat and tidy and together :)
There are also times i just copy the hair and props into the outfit folder and leave a copy in the actual Hair or Props folder because it's easier on my memory if I want to use it for something else. LOL

I hope that all made sense and answered your question? If not I'll try and explain it better. :)

    Good luck!

Impressive list of neck bones, given that actual giraffes only have seven! I guess it makes sense that toons would need some extra flexibility.

Yeah. that list was like the Energizer Bunny. It just kept going and going....should be fun! I plan on doing what I always do first- grab the head, move it and see what happens, lol.

And good afternoon Sassy Wench! When I head out to the barn in an hour, I'll tell my deer the corn is from you today :)
I'd love to reorganize my files- is it as simple as making a folder (all within My Library) with subfolders (product names) and dragging over to it?) That way everything for an item would be together. Or (sigh) is it more complicated than that?

The other question I had- does having a lot of files installed slow down the studio start up time? Do most people use the products then remove from the studio? I have all my files on an external hard drive so I've always got them, and quite a few on my pc.

Hey, evening to you too! Our deer (you're now co-herd owner) were playing hide and seek tonight. It figures, I took the daughter of a friend out to see them and they decided they'd had such a buffet last night, they weren't interested. Also though, if they heard hunters or people in the woods, they will remain hidden until the wee hours of the morning. Fine with me. I loved the name of your bundle, lol!

Okay, I think I get the gist. But what do you do when the FOLDERS (for non tech people like me, and correct me if I'm wrong, the folders hold the files) both have the same name? Take a peek at this screenshot. Let's say I want to combine the Elven Warrior clothes and props. In the clothes section, the file is called Elven Warrior. But it's named that in the Props section too.

    So would I
    1. rename the Elven Warrior props folder "Elven Warrior Props" and put it under the "Elven Warrior" in Clothes OR
    2. would it be better to just drag the props into the Elven Warrior clothes folder so there's not another click to do in the studio- everything would show all together, right? Which way do you do it? (Am I on the right track here, anyone?)

I for one, NEVER touch a default install. If it installs and I can load it and use it I'm happy with the item. I Do Category all my items and do exactly this. All files in one place. That way I never MOVE a file hard coded to a Path.

    Just my Two Cents....

Jaderail- what do you mean by you categorize all your items? And exactly what is a path, so I know we are speaking the same lingo. (My lingo is DUH) The path meaning the Props/Elven Warrior?

Whatcha doing up so late? EDIT- Super glad you are, just surprised!

OMG!!! I co-own beautiful little deer! I'm sooo excited! :D Hunters!! Oh no!! I'd probably bring them into the house to be safe. LOL And this is why I don't have anything but little cats LOLOL

You have it exactly right! :) And I would go with choice 1. It's easier and more organized for me to click the second folder than to scroll through all the clothes pieces to get to the props. But I'm anal that way LOL But sure, you can lump it all together if it makes it easier for you :)

If I understand what you mean by "hard coded" the only thing really hard coded are the textures in the texture folder. And of course the whole Data folder. The rest is where DAZ or the vendors decide to put them. As in... some scenes are in Props and yet others are in Environments. I've never run into a problem moving any of it around.

But then again... I don't use smart content or categories. I'm old school still using the content tab. LOL

Ohhhh, that's a really good point. One extra click is going to be much faster than, as you say, scrolling through stuff to find what's props and what's clothing. I think I"ll actually give this a try with Elven and tape it for a tutorial, following it into the Studio. (Watch it not work, lol! That's what editing is for. I ditched the giraffe btw and will do a product WITHOUT binoculars for that video, lol!

Do you use the DIM? Can people use it to just download, but not install? (But you'd have to know where it went, right? I think that would be a nightmare. I was using Taozen's wonderful downloader and it organized by order number, so all mine in my external hard drive are that way, and I still download new content and file by order number. I LOVE that aspect of the Product Library, as the order number is on the product page. I really like what DAZ did with the Product Library (I know I'm digressing here) but it makes it SO easy to search for a product and see if you have it.

When I post the deer on YouTube, I'll send you a link. I've named one Sassy and one Wench :) One is Einstein (smart, hides until knows it's clear) and I think I'll name the other one Jaderail. (Let's see how fast he responds!) That one would be the one with blue stains on his face from eating berries!

Well it works like this...Follow the Arrows...

Image 1. All content you install goes into Categories > Default. All the NEW items have the Folder and Icon's Highlighted in Blue.
Image 2. You can Right Click on Categories and create new folders. Here are some I use as done by another User and the SUB's under it. Each folder can have as many sub folders as you like.
Image 3. Right clicking on any Icon/s will get the menu you see here.
Image 4. The GasMask.duf is a New item I right clicked and picked Category from the Menu. That opens the Menu, I then Follow the paths until I get to the place I wish the Item to be listed in, (You CAN list in as many as you like, just CHECK each folder). I can then find that GasMask in my Genesis>Wearable>Sci-Fi>Headwear everytime I want it.

I also Have a Folder in Props zOther that Holds ALL items for EACH set by set Name. That mask is Luthbel's Urban Wilderness. That folder HOLDS every item for the set. Clothing, Props, Mat's and anything for the FULL set.

Wow. I've got DS open and am following it. GREAT explanation (so far.) I just did the screenshots for what SassyWench and I were discussing- I think your explanation should be video-ed. I'm such a doofus when it comes to technical. I click, it appears, I'm happy. But I really do need to progress further than that and understand what does what. Let me finish up with what I'm on at the moment (I did manage to rename the Elven Warrior in Props to "Elven Warrior Props" and COPY it under the Clothing Elven Warrior. I left the original in Props so I can find it for other uses.

I'll peruse yours tomorrow- I was able to easily zip along the categories/ why something is blue, and it's all very nicely explained. I edited the title of the thread so people wanting to know how to do this now have great illustrations instead of just text explanations. THANK YOU!

And are you just ignoring the fact you have an adorable, sweet deer named after you? (because your avatar just oozes SWEET. (right)

EDIT! No I did just have a bit of weather (I'm in Bama) and had to shut down a bit. I'm still honored. Lets hope the Deer looks better at my age.

I feel SO bad for the folks over in Texas- hate that they got hit with those storms/tornadoes- hope you stay safe.
I just had another "what now?" in the training video. After I made that change and copied the Elven Props to the clothing one, when I was filming I was showing the difference in Smart Content vs Content Library- and I had to re-import my meta data, the Smart Content was empty. (The All and Default grayed out. Nada. Only thing I could call up was that stupid giraffe!) Do you think it was because of the change I made or just coincidence?

OMGosh Jaderail, look at the radar. Don't know exactly where you are, but there's another round of storms heading east- big swatch, looks like same path as what just hit so that might be you. EDIT: looks like going to heavy rain, but the people below Tupelo MS better have their weather radios on.

OPPS!! I did miss speak in the First post. The DEFAULT Category only holds items that have METADATA. For older Items or NONE Daz3D items you will need to find all the proper items, Figures, Props, Poses, Materials (poser) and Materials (ds) in the proper Content Library Tab/s and then Category them. The good news is they also show with a BLUE Highlight when Installed.

EDIT: Wanders off to check Radar....

EDIT 2: Fiddle sticks, that stuff in Missy will get to me in a few hours, I just had the George stuff go by...

As a reminder to newbies- the Content Library has items with and without metadata. So when Jaderail is referring to the Default folder- that would be items found in the Smart Content tab as well as the Content Library. (Right?)

(The Smart Content tab has only metadata products.)

YES!! but only Smart (metadata) content auto loads into DEFAULT Category. The Category feature in DS4+ uses the CMS just like Smart Content. The Difference is Categories can hold any content Smart Content can not, it will only have items with Metadata.

Use Accuweather.com, not Weather.com (and Wunderground.com during hurricane season. Jeff Masters called Katrina going into New Orleans / Beaumont TX coastline two days ahead of anyone else.)

Anyway, you said, "you will need to find all the proper items, Figures, Props, Poses, Materials (poser) and Materials (ds) in the proper Content Library Tab/s and then Category them. The good news is they also show with a BLUE Highlight when Installed." If the search is working (say good ole Elven Warrior) and I searched and the outfit came up, if I held my mouse over the images they would tell me the paths- I could approach it that way. But then the blue would disappear, wouldn't it?..... I just cringe thinking about trying to find all the associated files.

The Blue only disappears if you click a items icon, and then only that items icon. You can mark ALL items as Viewed which is the same as clicking on each of them.

EDIT: You do not need the PATH to Category, you do it FROM the default install folder as seen inside the DS Content Library Tab. I've never tried a Search, IF the right click gives the Category option it WILL work.

BIG TIP! You need to Design your Categories First unless you intend to do FULL folders and Sub Folders (it's a option) when you set up your Files in Category.

Maybe I should do a FULL start to finish TUT of this with images. I'm a bit tight for time in RL until Monday.

Going on 4am so I'm going to go play a bit with Wednesday and show folks some of the morph combos. (Interesting with Paloma) for later today. I'll mull over what you're saying..I'm sure I'll have questions when I'm not so tired. Thank you so much Jaderail. Sleep well and hopefully you can enjoy having the rain- we've gotten zilch here in Pensacola the past eight or nine days.

And thanks again Sassy Wench. Talk to you soon :)

And good morning again :) I can spend hours adjusting lights, but I want to find my content fast LOL This way works for me so give it a try and see if it works for you. :)

I use DIM for everything. Set up a folder for your downloads. (Mine is on my desktop named DIM Installs... creative no? LOL) Set up a folder for the install files. (Mine is on one of my externals called Installers)
Open DIM and go to "settings". Click the Downloads tab and browse to the folder you just set up for your actual downloads.
Click the Installation tab and browse to the folder you have just set up for the installer files. Click accept and you should be back at the download screen.
I choose the ones I don't want to install, just download, first. Check them off and remember to uncheck the "install after download" box and click "start queue" and your job is done! LOL
When it's done I check off all the rest, check "Install after download", start queue and let it do it's thing.
Close DIM, open the "to be installed" folder and go to town organizing! :)
Then what I do is move that window to one side of the screen and open up "My Library" next to it and just drag folder by folder into it.
Super easy and really takes no time once you get the hang of it :) At least that's what works for me. LOL
And I agree... the Product Library is very cool! I use it for searches also and to DL programs and whatever else doesn't show up in DIM right now.

Oh my! A Sassy Deer and a Wench-y Deer? You're in trouble now! LOLOL You're adorable! Thank you :)

Can't wait to see how you make out with it all :)

What is a path, perhaps the single most important thing for newbies to learn. Understanding the concept of directory/folder path is crucial to installing.
