You know your head is big when you're eclipsing the moon. cheeky

Hello everyone! I've (again) missed most of what's been going on on the forum for the last couple of months. Yesterday I managed to do some catching up and realized that a necklace I was using in a render I'm setting up works with this month's theme here, so I did a close up portrait render of my model (Mei Lin 8) that I use in the scene. If anyone wonders where Ducky is, he's on the floor and thus can't be seen in this close up.

I wasn't that inspirational with the shape, so I went for the moon as well, but I chose chinese mythology: Chang'e and Yuyu. Chang'e is a moon godess who can either turn into a rabbit herself when on erth or has a companion rabbit which then is called Yuyu (Jaderabbit). You might come across those names in context with the chinese moon lander (there is one on the moon already by that name with nr 3) which is now going to land on the dark side of the moon, by the number 4. enough ramble, here's the image:

Thanks for sharing Linwelly... and the lesson... I love hearing about myths from around the world!  Always fascinating.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!  I suppose before the end of the year I need to pick a RANDOM day to fill you all in on next years' challenge... That is if everyone still wants to do one?  Are you all game?  Please let me know.

    Crescent Moon Sword Mirror

    How many do you count????

I count four? And the rest is mirror images. Not going to try count all of those! cheeky Very cool mirror effects. Well done!

I'm looking forward to next year's challange. Hopefully I'll be able to participate on a more regular basis that I've done this year.

    @SimonJM Wonderful idea! Love it!

@isidorn Great necklace and beautiful portrait!

@Llola Lane cool image! how many mirrors to create it? Too many reflections for my brain !!!!!!

Like I said a couple of days ago I am looking forward to next year challenge.

@Llola, very clever, I'm sure there is only one original sword, the rest are mirror images

@Simon, nice reference :D well done

@isidorn, welcome back to the madness! I missed you! nice render there.

Thanks a lot to everyone for the nice comments, and i would certainly be in for next years challenges!

ding.. ding.. ding... We have a WINNER... Linwelly is correct... only 1 sword ... the rest are mirrors.

The sword is in a BOX with mirrored sides... If you are gonna try playing with mirrors... don't forget to turn up the MAX RAY TRACE DEPTH when you render... The default is 2 and you will only see 6-8 swords... I turned it up to 16 for mine... but if I had turned it up to the max of 32... my computer would have probably started smokin'.. lol

Yay can not wait till you announce them for next year!!

    Well done Llola Lane.

You said a single crescent sword in a box with mirrored sides. The top and bottom of the box must be normal glass or you would not be able to see the original sword. Because of the angle of the box, it would produce 4 sword reflections in eight directions on the same level for a total of 32 reflections plus the original sword and it's 4 reflections. This would be 36 reflections and the original sword at the main level. The mirrors would reproduce the 36 reflections plus one reflection from the original sword 3 levels below and 3 levels above the main level. This would total 37 reflections for 6 levels, 36 reflections for 1 level and 1 original sword. A total of 258 reflections and 1 original sword. Or as Linwelly put it 1 sword and a bunch of reflections

Great render and great math tease.

Can't wait to start on January.

I also thought about you can split a rod only to atom level, the same about a mirror render, but the limit is a single pixel ,and my diamond render was maxed out,now I think it would be good to have some formula that you type in diamond size or sword size and out you get onlyneeded racetrack depth, small diamond = few racetraces, beyond that makes almost no difference at the cost of loads of computer power/unnecessary high rendering times

There have been wonderful, inventive and evocative crescent renders. Here's my rather mundane, everyday effort.

(3Delight render. Model is Alexandra 8 with HD Add-on)

I'm ready for next years challenge!

Great render in my opinion. It is really bad when your mundane everyday effort is so much better than my best effort.

  • mach25mach25 Posts: 256

its very nice Nattaruk and you find an inventive way of make a crescent, catching the right moment in our everyday life when we drink coffee without noticing what shapes we have around us,we just need more coffee to wake up to pay attention to detailsyes
