I have a pic from when I was there...but not from after sadly LOL
This photo was taken around 3 o'clock in the morning, it was drizzling. I used an flash light for extra lighting and waited for the right monument when he was letting the ladies know he was looking for a mate. Photo taken 3 years ago using Fuji finepixs5200. Haven't seen many toads since we were in a drought for the pass 2 years. Hopefully I will get the new frog pond finished this summer.
Really cool shot. I've never seen or caught a frog when they were poofed out like that :)
OK here are a couple more from me and then I am gonna quite...I am just a photo junkie LOL (these all taken with my Cannon EOS Digital Rebel and I can't recall now which lens for it LOL) The photo with the three handsome fellas in it being the most beautiful thing I ever photographed :) And my favorite thing to take pictures of :)
Hi Szark! Yes, whenever hiking I like catching snaps of the undergrowth fungi. The 'abstracts of nature' are a fav subject. And those 'nibbles' can be cool as well. Still trying to locate so many of my picts, had to migrate from one computer to a new one and the backup external drives are all over the place...
MysticBlueRaven, thank you about my raindrops pict. (Luna Moths are so awesome when they show up!) I just wish the photos were not in 'scrunched' file size, but gist is there at least.
DAZ_Ann, we've actually plenty of old ruins mills around here, but so tricky to get to it's a risk of your life to get anywhere close for decent shots. Always seem to be stuck on woodsy hills that go straight down around here. Bah.
Love this laurel forest place we often hike. So many of the trees have grown together and there are some pretty cool things to see.
Just starting the day here, (no tea and world still fuzzy) but here's a quick one I call "Dancers" because the center tree looks like a pair of legs.

Well before you get rid of your film camera lenses, my significant other who is a professional photographer (ultra large format to Leica and all between) picked up a Panasonic Lumix awhile back. (GH1 originally) Is in love with it because using some adaptors ordered from Hong Kong that go for about $20.00 you can use almost any film lens ever made. 35 mm, wide angles, LF, ULF...as well as movie camera lenses. Been making some cool HD videos with lenses that came with various tag sale World Wars era movie cameras. And since so many are dumping those lenses because they are unaware of this, you can shop around and truly make out. And yes, not your two hundred dollar camera, but not your 'most expensive out there' either. VERY worth the wait and saving up for. And these things are so good that professional film makers are using them instead of those traditional monsters--because they can use the lenses and get the same quality/effect.

Okay, a few more from the archives. I also have a nice shot of a couple of what we here in the UK call Ladybirds but I believe that in the US they are referred to as Ladybugs but as it features two of the aforementioned insects who are getting quite friendly it might well breach the Daz TOS so for now you'll just have to look elsewhere for your daily insect porn ;-)

Thanks for that info - much appreciated - as I had been wondering about that. The last film Pentax I bought, I ended up getting two very good lens for - one for macro work and one for zoom - and I was wondering if I would be able to use them with a Digital SLR as I would love to still be able to use them. Will definitely look into these adaptors - they sound like an excellent prospect. I will also take a look at the Lumix and see if it is in the realm of possible for me. The cameras I had been researching were around $800 to $900 - a lot to save up for but well worth it.
Especially after I see all these wonderful photos that people are posting here. They are fantastic. You all show the amazing moments that can be captured with photography. :-)

I wanted a 7D as well, it's an awesome camera. I bought a 550D because it's the closest thing to a 7D on my budget (like a mini 7D without the price tag). But I still would have preferred the 7D for the heavier body if the price difference hadn't been so much.

Oh to be fit again sitting in a hide/tent waiting for the perfect shot with a Pentax SLR and a 500mm Mirror lens and a good sturdy tripod getting cold or bitten to death by midges. Never knowing if the image is good until the film was processed. The glory days.

the squirrels and the turkey were kind of afraid of each other. She is a young hen, still had a downy head. Not sure why she was alone. Usually they come in a small group.
Luckily for her it wasn't Thanks Giving Day.......:lol:
honestly i think a Butterball is a better bird for thanks giving. The wild birds don't have much meat on them and taste gamey. I much prefer feeding them and watching them. Normally I only get Turkeys in the winter when there is snow on the ground. When it gets hard to find food in the woods they will come into my feeding station. So seeing a bird this time of year is a rare treat. In the winter I put out cracked corn for them. They will come in 2 or 3 times a day to eat corn. The Toms will fight with their reflections in the windows, they put on a pretty good show.

lol i feed all the critters, but actually the food was put out for the birds, the possums and raccoons have just decided that they like it too
I feed the birds as well, because bird food is cheaper than cat food :-)

I was looking at these two pictures and thinking that they are in some ways very similar, in others very different. So I thought I jot a few notes for anybody looking through these posts who maybe is new to or not very experienced with photography who might be interested.
The similar
Both feature birds in flight (and both over water), and both birds are in a similar pose/position. Both shots where taken on the same camera (a Canon 7D in this case).
The not some similar.
The lenses & settings:
Duck 1/160th Sec at f8 with a Sigma 150mm f2.8 Macro lens.
The Gull 1/1000th Sec at f9 with a Sigma 170-500mm f5-6.3 Zoom lens (at 500mm).
The lower shutter speed of the duck shot has meant that the background has blurred as I tracked the duck with the camera (a technique known as panning), also you can see the blur of the ducks wings as they have moved during the exposure. These effects result in a less sharp image but give a sense of movement to the shot.
The Gull shot because of the higher shutter speed has frozen the bird in flight, the result is a sharper bird but with little sense of movement.
Which you prefer is a personal choice and what you are looking to achieve, but in my opinion they both make good shots of similar subjects but with some distinct differences.
I think somebody is wielding the thread scalpel around these parts.
