I hear you on the 3DU characters. I find myself using them a fair bit, Sadie and Sam especially. I own the majority of genesis compatible toons including Jasmine, Jason, Sadie and Sam as well as Kimberly, I also have Sadie and Sam's classic counterparts with a sizeable wardrobe for both.
I just think she's one of the most adorable characters in the 3DU library, so I use her a lot. She was used as a mascot on a website some years back and I even recall seeing her on the front of a Nintendo game case! I couldn't help but smile knowingly when I saw that. I got her originally with the intent of creating some short comics, but canned that idea when I realised I'm just not funny enough to write comedy.
You can use SadieFae on Genesis, but the skirt gets absolutely destroyed when doing so. The top, wings and panty works fine (though you'll need to parent the wings to her chest rather than conform them). Skirts have always been a problem with the autofit, and I doubt that will change any time soon. Here's a quick and dirty comparison between classic and genesis Sadie. Also, just because, here's another cute fairy...
Yeah, well, they can be programmed to make you think they're booting faster than you actually think. By default it's set with FastBoot on in the power settings, this can skip things in the boot menu to make you think it's faster that it actually is. What it actually does is slow the machine down after it's booted as it then loads everything FastBoot skipped. If you turn that off then everything loads fully at the start and there is no real loss in boot speed. Plus anything loaded after booting won't get slowed by Win 8 playing catch up.
CHEERS!
Very nicely put together, everything looks like it belongs in the scene.
CHEERS!
That's another great render,
The overall lighting makes it look properly like an exterior and not like they're standing in a studio set. I got the Starter Bundle for D5 as the offer price was too good to turn down. Gen 5 is really coming into it's own now and it's time the other vendors embraced that.
CHEERS!
Yeah, real cute!
The girl in the bottom render looks to be saying "Aww, Mom, you can't make me go to the party in this!"
CHEERS!
...I would imagine part of the issue with the skirt (as it is only knee length and technically should work) is because there is no corresponding "Sadie" clone figure for the autofit tool to extrapolate the fits from. The same would hold true for Sam as well. I thought it was mentioned somewhere in the original "Sadie for Genesis" thread a while back that there would be a clone figure for fitting the "legacy" clothing to the Genesis version. Apparently, as with Mavka for Genesis, that was not the case (I have a lot of older Mavka content as well).
It would also be nice to get a Sadie/Sam UV set so the older character MATs like Nyla, Dew Myst, and LiLu could be used, as well.
Actually, you're incorrect. Sadie and Sam for Genesis includes the clone figures for both. Below is the dialogue option which comes up when autofitting items to Genesis. As for UV sets, I ended up creating my own for Sadie in order to use some old texture sets I had for her.
Dresses have always and WILL always be a problem because of how they work. Old timey ones had their own unique rigging rather than strictly adhering to the figure, often adding extra bones so that you can more easily manipulate the skirts. When autofit tries to match the garment to the figure it does so by effectively clamping each half of the skirt to either leg. This means that the center part is often heavily distorted, resulting in a rather jarred appearance.
...hmm I haven't run into issues with shorter skirts (Knee length and above). Just a short while ago I fitted the V4 Annibelle dress to My Leela character (using "shirt - tight") and it fit fine without any distortion. The Sadie Fae skirt is about the same length (I don't remember if it has handles though, if so, that would mess things up as I understand Autofit doesn't like skirt handles)
If there is a Sadie clone, shouldn't there also be a Sadie UV listed under "UV Type" in the Surfaces tab?
Finally gave in and bought Reality 3 for Poser and this is the first render I did :D...
everything is rendered in Lux then post worked on it a lot on PS to get rid of the grain and added a lot of effects
here is the raw render without any postwork http://sta.sh/019uxlws81d7
You don't like it grainy? I actually thought a bit of graininess does kind of spice up one's renders. But I guess it's just me.
I believe you can 'smooth' out most of the grain by letting Lux render the scene longer. Was that green glow near the base postwork, by the way?
I only have a quad core and this scene rendered more than 20+hours and i don't wanna continue it... and yes the green glow is added in postwork
Clone shapes are only used for autofitting, they're unrelated to UV sets which are separately saved in the data folder. Dresses have always been an issue for me. I've tried autofitting a lot of different dresses and they all come out distorted between the legs. This was also the case when I used CrossDresser XD back in the day. I have the licenses for Sadie, Sam and K4 and converted a lot of outfits between them, but skirts were always hit or miss and continue to be.
Sometimes the distortion isn't too bad so I let it slide, but other times it's utterly unworkable. Though, it's likely due to me not owning many 'tight' skirts, with the majority being flowing skirts intended for movement. It wouldn't hurt them to add an Ankle length skirt option either. It should be noted though, most of the ones I own use handles because of their unique bone rigging so that you can manipulate the dress.
Nice,
I have Luxus and also only have a quad core, and, if the untouched render is what you get after 20 hours then it doesn't bode well for any attempt I might make at a render. Ah well, I only got it because it happened to be on sale that day. It's something I could live without if I had to.

It depends heavily on what sort of scene it is and how you set things up. Once you're a bit more experienced in using it, you can bring the render times down considerably. That said, for noise-free scenes on average it will still take a lot longer than the equivalent 3DL render. To use Bobvan's renders as an example, they use relatively simple lighting to keep render times down, and the materials don't appear to have changed much from the Reality auto-conversions. This is how he can keep render times minimized while still retaining moderate quality.
There will always be a trade off between quality or speed whether you use 3DL or Luxrender, but Lux does have a little bit of a steeper learning curve to get the best scenes with the minimum of fuss. Things like SSS require long render times though, so be forewarned if you plan to add those things into your scenes.
Yeah well,
I'll definitely give it a go when I'm back concentrating on 3D again.
CHEERS!
...and SSS is important for realistic skin tones I tried using it years ago with pwSurface and it took nearly two hours to just do a 20 x 20 spot render.

These took 10 plus hours due to all the water and reflective materials. This is where the breast and the option of network rendering should come in handy..

Yep, with them around I can see how the 'breast' is VERY important! LOL!
CHEERS!
One thing you might consider are the breast morphs for clothes. It makes them sit more realistically on the figures rather than the super-glued look that you often get with larger breasts. Essentially the fabric appears to stretch across rather than following the contours of the chest like they were wearing skin-tight spandex.
Also, if you're not going to get much reflection out of the water, you might be better off using a simpler material for rendering it. It will massively reduce render times while giving you the same look. I'm betting the majority of the time was due to the size of the area rendered and largely due to the need for reflections across the water surface. I guarantee you can get identical results in only a few hours if you're cunning enough.
I recently went on a bit of a spend since Lisa's Botanicals went on sale and picked up a few nice things. Here's the return of the fairy girl, this time with a proper background. A bit of postwork went in to haze up the edges and provide a little bloom effect, but most of it was just rendered. Getting the lighting right was probably the hardest part of the entire image.
Great render,
I think Bob actually meant to type 'beast' in reference to his new computer. I can understand how he became preoccupied though, LOL!
CHEERS!
Yeah what Roger says I am referring to my i7 5th gen 32G workstation with a 2G DDR5 fire pro AMD Card (more detailed spects were posted earlier in the thread) that's coming Thursday should speed up things quite a bit and having the opportunity to network render with my existing i7 notebook and all. As far as the breasts go this is a story someone else had written and all the wimin have huge breasts in it LOL... Another way I could of saved time is rendered the boat and the girls as an alpha file and found a pic of water for the backdrop instead of the Reality water prop...
"Here's to swimmin' with bow-legged women!" - Quint - Jaws (1975)
Keep them coming folks, one day I'll get some done myself!
CHEERS!
Can't wait to see what the beast will do Thursday cant come fast enough! BTW I was in a store and saw the shell install on win 8 will definitely be adding it. Can you be more precise about that booting up recommendation you were mentioning? Anyhoo in the meantime....http://bobvan.deviantart.com/art/Island-6-369784906?q=gallery:bobvan&qo=2
Alot more post work as they make their way towards "the Island" anyone familiar with my work will know what is waiting there.....http://bobvan.deviantart.com/art/Island-7-369788916?q=gallery:bobvan&qo=1
I wasn't making a pun out of the breast thing, just noticing how their tops don't seem to fit too well. It's a common sight with larger breast morphs and there were morphs made which push the outfit away from the body without distorting the breasts underneath. It's a good way to make it look more natural and still keep a larger breast size.
I used the clothes morphing options I know that the sizes are a bit more unnatural then I usually use for my own tales but hey thanks for the tip all the same... BTW using R2 is not as bad as you always make it out to be. You say one has to use SSS for more realistic looking skin. I think the only one I seen making the odd human looking characters is HB Soto and some portraits but not that often with action shots like we create still with the new get up R3 should be fun. I am just staying with it cause I am used to what I need to get the desired results..
I've just had too many issues working with Reality to recommend it too highly. The most glaring of which is its occasional refusal to actually load the Reality window when called. It's not terrible by any stretch, but its less integrated nature makes working with it harder than it needs to be and a simple materials update would have covered a lot of my minor annoyances which involve a lack of support for Luxrender materials. Even more annoying is that fog is only usable in Reality via its own Fog prop, and you can't simply use the dropdown selection to create unique shapes. It's cubed or nothing.
Still, if it wasn't for R2 I wouldn't have gotten into Luxrender at all, so I'm still grateful for it. It's an uncut diamond as far as I'm concerned. Precious, certainly, but still needing the polish and shine of the finished article. I'm hoping that Reality 3 will fill in the gaps that R2 has, and with a bit of luck maybe it'll be kept updated within reason to the latest Luxrender materials.
