Bryce 3d the neglected, unloved program by DAZ

edited May 2017 in Art Studio

I'm using Bryce since about 20 years and it's a shame this programm was ever sold to DAZ. They had also could throw it in the trash. The program had the potential to put VUE and TERRAGEN in the shadows forever. I've never used DAZ Studio to create any images. I only use it to open the DAZ objects and then export for using in Bryce. Special thanks to David Brinnen and Horo for all their helpful tutorials.

Beautiful Renders and I agree Bryce is as impressive as Terragon, Vue and many others but sadly not in active development.

Just a 64bit version would be nice.

Excellent renders and the composition of them. Just wonder how long they took to render.

Bryce 3d has also a good generator of terrains with possibility to export them to the other 3d applications.

I am using such terrains in Daz Studio and I like the results.

Thanks for you comment. My renders are all in resolution of 6000 x 3375 px. The renders took from several hours to several days.

If you come and visit us in the Bryce forum you will find that there are very many more things that can be done with Bryce apart from generating terrains.

I don't realy know what you are trying to tell me. I'm using Bryce since 20 years now and believe me I know the posibilities of Bryce. I also know what could be possible with Bryce if DAZ had never got it in their fingers.

So come and join our friendly Community over in the Bryce forum.  We have long running render threads, Render challenges and all sorts.   I have been using Bryce since Bryce 2, I use a PC so couldn't use Bryce 1.
If you click on my signature image it should take you straight to the Bryce forum.

Beautiful renders, excellent composition and a fine example of the capabilities of Bryce!

I think the worst thing about the neglect is lack of documentation.

i mean, Daz' documentation is already pretty sparse, but good luck hunting down anything easy for Bryce.

I have a complete documentation for Bryce 5 in German language. The best help for everything are all the videos from David Brinnen and Horo.

Wow, georgeous renders. Were those skies make in Bryce or are they backdrops?

I confess to trying it a few times but I didn't stick with it as the user interface always seemed to be teetering on the edge of a crash dump.

Chohole: And a good wiki for Bryce?

Well I do have the "Bryce Artist Guide" that came with (I think) Bryce 5 plus a quick search of amazon gives a few options which I think  https://www.amazon.com/Bryce-3D-Handbook-Shamms-Mortier/dp/1886801584/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1494605926&sr=1-1&keywords=bryce+3d is probably the best.  Then there are Horo & David's sites & youtube channels which are amazing resources as well.  To be honest, since it hasn't changed much, Bryce is probably the best documented of any software daz offers.

I will say that Bryce is my absolute favorite way of generating landscapes. (which I can then export)

Bryce is really what brought me to the world of 3d rendering back in the 90's to begin with.  This led to Poser then DAZ and et voila Daz Studio.  Although I think back in the day I did end up buying the zygote dragon as my first 3d mesh.

You are joking I hope, no serious Brycer ever recommended that book.      Susan Kitchen's book is 1000% better and still avaliable at Amazon as a used book.  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Real-World-Bryce-Susan-Kitchens/dp/0201354381

Bryce main program hasn't changed much, just stuff has been added (tree lab, meta balls by Corel,  new lights, hdri etc etc by Daz, as well as the bridge for those of you who use DS)   THere is documentation for the new Bryce 7 pro features,  Horo I think can tell you where to find it.

Most of the images have Bryce skies and HDRI skies. Only one of the landscapes has a backdrop image. The two flower images have also a backdrop image. A better handling about the crashes is using LAA (large address aware). I often hangle along the limit (about 800 Mb) with the *.br7 files. I'm saving after every change above 500 Mb

Ok @chohole you got me there.  I think I got that book when I worked at borders hq for free but I do remember not being impressed with it now that you said something.

Gorgeous stuff!  If you go over the the Bryce forums like Chohole suggested you might find that its not as deas as one would think.  I have barely touched the surface of learning to use it and I am always amazed at what this program can do.  It would be nice if we could get it in 64bit... I would also highly recommend the Large Address Aware thingy, it makes a big difference and the folks over on thr Bryce forums made it easy to install for anyone that is interested in giving Bryce a try.

Really great renders Grapholix. I particularly like 2015_11_23 Castle and Dogrose.

I got my start in 3d with Bryce as well.
