I want to give a huge shoutout to @FirstBastion for his newly released Downtown Condo Apartment.

Going through the available renders I noticed how logically it's laid out and everything fits well in its own space. Also, the details are amazing - from the various objects (props) laying around making it look lived-in, to the use of previous sets as renders for the pictures (which can be changed). A classic looking toilet with seat AND lid? What a novel concept! And that bathroom sink/vanity - my heart skipped a beat when I saw it - one of the few and rarely seen IN-COUNTER sinks! A normal looking bathtub and shower combo rounds out the room perfectly.

The addition of a hallway outside the front door gives the place a sense of connectivity and architectural cohesiveness. The inclusion of a hallway closet and a decently sized bedroom closet are important details, too.

There are only a few things I see that could be added to make this set absolutely perfect (and can probably be kitbashed):

    1. An oven or microwave in the kitchen would be handy

    2. There's a lot of wasted space over the sink where a row of cabinets would be very useful, especially in a condensed space such as this one

    3. A door on the hallway closet

    4. A linen closet or shelves in the bathroom for towel storage. There's no toilet paper dispenser (a free-standing one can easily be added, though). No towel rack, either.

    5. Some rugs in the living room to keep the furniture from scratching the hardwood floors (easily fixed)

Sorry to nitpick, it's just how I am. Regardless of the "missing" items, this set is one of the best looking and laid out apartments I've ever seen for sale, anywhere. Now, if we could get a two bedroom version ... :)

That's not nitpicking, that is making constructive suggestion for future development and improvements. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

It was released yesterday. See this.

I'm relieved at your response. I've admired your work for a long time and this set is top notch, so I was worried that my critique would come off wrong.

I read EVERYTHING on every product I check out, so I appreciate the time you take to fully explain your products. I can't count how many times I've skipped over a product because it was poorly explained (or not at all). To me, vendors who take the time to tell the customer about the product shows how invested they are in their own product and care about its presentation.

    Keep up the great work!

PS: I absolutely picked this set up yesterday, just wanted you to know.

Thank you arioch, and no worries,  I've been a PA for 10 years and have been doing various creatives for 20+ so have developed an appreciation for all feedback. If you share what you hope to see and need, I'll do my best to try to provide something useful.   I'm just trying to offer products that are useful for people's art and storytelling. And I'm always happy to see renders so post them here if anyone wants to share.

.If any of those are required products for any of those, they really shouldn't be pulled before letting people get them. I have Rocky Flats and the Grassy Stone, I assume one is needed for the other? Can't tell with this CRAPPY NEW PRODUCT LIBRARY SETUP.

    About the appartments:

Does it have separate  props or is there just a scene?

How much of the props are rigged? Does e.g. drawers and the fridge open?

  • All the individual props on the counters of the kitchen and in the bedroom are included in the scene file and load with the scene preload. You can save them as subsets if you need. The fridge door does not open. The bedroom closet doors do slide open.

  • An Unfinished Basement by FB has a fridge that opens. It has character that the newer ones don't. The texture could also be altered to put children's drawing and other notes on the door.
  • How is The Neighbour's Yard redux going? I'm really looking forward to that one.

  • Hurdy3DHurdy3D Posts: 1,047

The fridge was just an example.

I'm more interested in indoor scenes which has also separate rigged items, because I do comics and create a lot of custimized envs, mixed from other products.

This product is more or less perfect:

    https://www.daz3d.com/harwood-house

Every prop as a seperate duf file to load into my scenes, everything is rigged ans it also included exterior.

Sadly, that FB appartment has only rigged doors and not seperate props in own duf files is a deal breaker for me.

  • Yeah that KA house has style and lots of cool props.

Something I learned from Val at Dreamlight though around 2005 so not sure if it works on newer sets (but maybe someone can chime in to correct me) is that props without duf can be isolated and copied in a scene or to another scene or saved as a duf by you. You can also change the prop to -100 so the door swings open the other way (left instead of right or in instead of out depending on which access is changed.)

  • Another set in the pipeline as part of the 1stBastion Buildings line:   Fire Station

I wonder why it is not released in the DAZ Shop yet?

You can also change the prop to -100 so the door swings open the other way (left instead of right or in instead of out depending on which access is changed.)

Every individual prop in the scene is its own duf already. Which just means it is saved as a Daz Asset. SO when I saved the scene subset all the individual props are included in the one larger file.

It is easy to breakdown the individual props but it is time consuming.

    1. If you want an individual prop, select it in the scene,  then using parameters tab,  zero its location with the transforms tab, x=0. y=0 z=0  that will place it at the origin point, if it was modelled and imported to the origin.

    2. In the scene tree,  find the prop,  and right click, depending on which version of DazStudio you are using, there is the option to change parent to root or Unparent "model name".  Now it is isolated from the rest of the scene,  and not parented to anything.

    3. Click File at top of page  and save as scene subset,  name it the "model name" with the first pop up, and navigate to where you want this prop saved,   then you get a second popup, which allows you to decide what you are including in this subset. This same method works for 1 props or twenty.

    4. The quickest way to only include the props you want is to uncheck all using the small pagebutton dropdown in the top right corner. When everything is unselected,  then find the individual prop and check it. Then save.

Now you have the prop available individually.

It's always a question of time, what do you work on?  the "beer fridge" was the centerpiece of that set,  so it made sense to give it the innards.

Not realistic enough? Apart from the colour scheme, it looks very much like the fire station here.

Thank you FirstBastion. Your tutorial was excellent!

With this pandemic and now the second wave lockdown in my province, time is something I have in abundance.

I missed getting the CN Tower you eliminated from your store but do have 33 outstanding sets of yours. Want to get at least three more but have to wait due to vet fees for two of my cats. Try not to get rid of anymore if you could hold for a half year more.

Not realistic? Is it missing a tower to hang the hoses to dry? I think you mentioned an oven or dryer to dry the hoses instead of the tower so they don't mould. It's a modern firestation like the police station and hospital you did.
I am currently using an older style firehouse by DreamlandModels.
Just better to have diversity in my city set if I could get a modern or postmodern fire station that I could put the modern firetrucks in.

It's more realistic than the other fire stations in the store.

Thanks for the heads up. I got wind of it just now, so it's too late, but the thought counts.

One thing some vendors don't realise is that some people actually DO buy older items. I animate with Carrara. So, I use items going back to Generation 1.

I know the items you're "retiring" have been in the store for a long time, but most of the time, smaller producers buy things AS they need them.

I'm not Sony, so I pick things up AS I need them or when the price is too much to pass up (Daz's BYOB $1.99 for 8). I bought till my credit card begged for mercy.

A couple smart vendors over at "the other place" are releasing NEW pose sets with V4, G3 & G8 included. Gen 4 ain't dead.

I know you're not moving much of that old stuff, but remember buildings, vehicles, poses for Gen 4, certain props are NEVER "past their sale date."
  • Something I've been working on. No idea how long it'll take to make it through the system.

42 days from that posting to into my library. Very nice set.
