Light Sets not working in Renders

Setting up lighting in DS 4.9:

I can't get the lights I apply in the DS design window to apply to the render.  I've tried all manner of parameters with no luck.  To simplify the Dx I opened a clean DS session, loaded V4, placed a spot light in front of her face so there was good fall off at about her chin.  Bottom line- didn't apply to my render.  I'm sure this is a cockpit issue but I haven't found it.  I did make sure the Ctl-F light was off.  Even the presets don't carry through to the render. I'm using IRAY.  I've stayed with IRAY because I don't want to throw yet ANOTHER Variable into the mix.

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks in advance

Bruce

Examples would be helpful.  Not clear when you say "didn't apply to my render".

  • I'll shoot some examples shortly, I have another process running at the moment But what I mean is:

In the design window I set my lights up, for instance a simple spot light aimed at the figure's face and narrow enough that only the face an upper torso is illuminated.  When I go to render the image the spot light is not there and the default lights show in spit of not having headlights on or the Ctrl+L.  I've looked at turtorials and I'm obviously missing something.  Nobody else seems to have this problem.

Have you turned off the dome? You have to set the Environment to Scene Only or the dome will provide ambient light which, if strong enough and you haven't altered the Tone Settings, could wash out the light from the light.

One gotcha if your scene has more than one camera; the headlights aren't a part of the scene, they're part of the camera. So if you turn off the headlight on one camera, but your final render is seen through another camera, that headlight will still be on. To fix this, select all your cameras and make sure the Headlight parameter shows "off" for all of them.

Use the global setting in Render Settings and leave the Camera set to Auo.

  • Fishtales you nailed it.  I've got a render going now that is looking good.

Thank you ALL for your help.  It's always nice to find so many people willing to help others.
