how to speed up rendering

I use carrara pro and the render time takes forever.  To do it in what should be the fastest time still takes almost 4 minutes and to do it in the better mode can take up to 45 minutes.  I do not have time for this.  Can someone tell me what settings I may need or what I am missing in my setups?  Thanks

Some folks render for days, others for hours. Four minutes or 45 minutes isn't generally an item for complaints. Then again more info would help? Scene type?, Computer, Video card, render enginer, render settings, render resolution, lighting, etc. All will afffect render time.
