Will hair slow down performance?

Ricardo Hair is on sale, but how do I know when a "hair" item will slow down my computer?  Some more complex hair sets have done this in the past. Not just slow renders but slowing down the whole Daz Studio program.

There is not a chance to know something like this beforehand. 

Hair will always slow down the rendering to some degree and sometimes studio itself - due to the heavy use of alpha maps.

What are your system specs?
