When you autofit clothing or hair, DS has to create data files for the converted item, since they aren't the same as for the original item, It creates them in the auto_adapted folder. If you save the converted item as a Support Asset > Figure/Prop Asset then the new item doesn't need the auto_adapted files; otherwise you need them for the autofit items to function.
I understand Poser products can end up with 'stuff' there too.
<nod> Exactly the same as when you're using Autofit — if you convert and save properly as D|S Figure or Prop Assets, the new D|S-format /data/ files are saved properly. If you just load the Poser stuff and immediately save as a Scene Subset, the /data/ files get stuffed any which way into the auto_adapted folder.
Thank you , now that I know why it's there, can I delete everything in the folder from whatever I have tried to autofit? If I delete will it be recreated next time I autofit something and save a scene subset? I am cleaning up my hard drive and trying to rid it of anything I don't need, and restructuring what I do need to keep

It depends on what all is in there. I have found some auto_adapted folders in products from freebies and elsewhere. So you kinda need to look and see what they are before you delete the folder.

ok thanks Jen
Probably best to copy the folder elsewhere, then when you open an old scene if Daz complains it can't find something you can go grab it.
awesome..good idea! Thanks :)
