How do you get a merged object to appear right in front of the current camera view. I can't keep going across a huge set looking for added props and people and then dragging them back to where I want them.
Select the item in the Scene pane and click the camera "frame" icon.
Or load the item in the right area by dragging it to the viewport while holding Ctrl (I think it's Ctrl, ight be Alt or Shift)
The first option doesn't work as it merely shift's the camera to where the item is...and I want to put the item where the camera is. The second option only works when you're dragging something from Smart Content...right? And if this is a custom item (a specific figure with wardrobe) that I'm merging into the scene there is no way to do that...right?

The second option should work regardless of where you're merging the item from.
Sometimes the Align tool can be really useful for this kind of thing.
