By the way, I think the release and uptake of encrypted content will increase with the uptake of Connect as the default content installation method for Studio. The more useful, successful and established Connect becomes for end users, the easier it will be for them to accept encrypted content.
That may be true, but a lot of people can be fairly conservative when it comes to changing the way they install and access their content. There is still a fair number that do not even use DIM, and that has been available for a few years now.
Well, since I'm building a new computer and will have to let it online to authenticate Win7, I'll download and install Studio 4.9 at the same time. Then that computer goes offline and stays there. Still not going to purchase DRM'd content, since I despise the very concept. In the absence of numbers showing that DAZ makes more money with DRM, I continue to wonder why they're doing it. They're sure not getting any from me!
I did get store credit for Chantille.
Really ticks me off that I wanted Chantille, but then, I want The Trenchcoat as well, but even though I'll have Registered Studio 4.9 soon, they'll still be DRM, so nope. Ain't buying. No way, no how.
Thanks for the warning! I happened to spot that myself(barely)
Ya know its funny I stopped buying stuff, or even getting freebies here once they announced 4.9 and I haven't been around. I assumed everything was DRMed by now. (that and other reasons) But about two weeks ago got a bug and started visting again and was initially scared to buy stuff(had a heart attack in my cart since I forgot to check if they were manual install or not) only to see it wasn't locked down and worked fine in my trusty install of 4.8. Was super happy.
Long and short, I left cause I didn't want to keep an eye out for encryption, don't care for what 4.9 offers.I come back a few weeks ago and splurge on stuff lazily without caring about if stuff will work. Now I have to keep an eye out and I just don't want to :( More fun just to impulse buy whatever and go about your day. *sob sob*
I still manage my own install paths and organization. Crusty old fart this one is.
I hear you, my purchasing has been much lower, but had increased slightly the last couple of weeks; then I saw connect only on an item; hell no, was my reaction.
Good job I'm paranoid and check; although it is easy enough to return something.
I can understand for a lot of users that this was a chore or hard to understand. While we could debate if users should be able to handle at least this much if they wish to use software, it's ultimately not something Daz wants as a barrier. And I understand that. I just can't be forced into using it. At least DIM was optional, excluding some DS betas.
I like options.
I use 4.9.1 entirely with the zip file manual install method. No DIM. No Connect. The PC isn't connected to the internet.
If 4.9.2 allows that, I will upgrade.
4.9.2 doesn't require Connect.
Very true; I uninstalled the SQLs months ago now; well Valentina was installed, and I downloaded and moved the other version (forget which) and ignore the SQL warning.

There you go, folks. No reason to not enjoy the benefits.
That is true. As much as I dislike Connect, and the idea of DRM/encryption, you can in fact use 4.9 without Connect. Which I do.
Yeh see my comment above about disabling it.
DRM/Encription shouldn't be grouped. DRM uses encription to work, but many other Internet-features require encription. DRM is a tool for controlling and limiting access to encrypted content.
Daz 4.9 works great, tried Beta and am currently trying the release of 4.9.2.
If I have any issues, well I have a disk image with 4.8 installed.
... I too like options and the illusion of control. :)
Sadly I can't use my encrypted content right now o updated studio and it needs to be activated again so I have to wait to borrow a phone again to be able to tether the Internet, it's been a while not being able to use stuff but it's not missed too much lol
It blows my mind that people are okay with this suddenly being a problem for them.
The art group I am in made the decision to buy marvelous designer, and stop buying premade clothes. It is a fairly large one time price, but it paid for itself in 4 months. I do recommend checking it out, search out Lori Griffith on youtube for some really great tutorials to get started. No more shrinkwrap, and you can even animate cloth in it.
After trialling it I made this decision too, but since it's taking me some time to save for the permanent version I'm waiting for the next release. Still think it's absolutely worth it. I really loved making clothing in MD and got better results than conforming clothing in much less modelling time (for me anyway.)

I was super surprised how easy it was to stitch together an outfit, it's so much faster than how I used to model it by hand in zbrush. Plus the realistic folds and wrinkles! I used to spend hours trying to sculpt that in, never got it looking quite right at all. Now just a matter of loosening or lengthening and tugging it arounds a bit lol.
Damnit they were in the basket and I didn't even notice.
Removed, ty.
I've wishlisted, but I won't be buying em when they come off DRM in a year.
You are wishlisting but won't be buying them after DRM is removed?
Unlikely, but Daz still might change their stance on DRM, or the duration before they remove it; hence the wishlisting. I don't like my Wishlist atm, it's too large; I keep it to no more than a 100 and it's at 108. Basically I don't use it as a 'wishlist', it's more of an intend-to-buy, the two are different. :)
If its removed in a year, Genesis 4 is likely just around the corner (if previous experience is an indication), so obviously would depend very much on price.
... Besides, you don't expect consistency from customers? (grin)
The release dates for both is listed as 2016-06-13 (not 2016-06-12).
Because they were released on the 13th.
My comment wad directed, as a courtesy, to Kerya, who has them incorrectly listed on the first post as being released on 2016-06-12. And to point out the fact that Daz is still adding Read Me pages, but failing to create new index pages.
EDIT: I see that Daz has now added new index pages for products numbered from 32000 through 32999.
If DRM is removed in a year and Gen4 is out, there's not much point in buying the item anymore unless it's something you still really want... wishlisted or not. For me, I've found a positive side to DRM. I don't buy any of it. It's great. I save money. I mean, I can't stop buying of my own accord. But DAZ has found the one thing I won't buy, DRM (been through that crap in the '80s and I'm not going through it again), and has put it on their products. So kind of them to help me out like that. And no, that's not sarcasm. I'm genuinely thankful.

Of course an alternative view would be to hold off buying any Genesis 4 for a year (assuming most of it is encrypted). At least by then most of the essential morph and other support packs needed for it will be out. It sort of extends G3 lifespan by another year or two.
Darn, lol thanks for pointing it out, I had eliya in my cart, so she's going in the wishlist for me too, at least till I able to get my computer reauthorized, I'm really hoping I won't have the problem again once its reactivated again

That is what I don't like about DRM; you//we/I have to hope. Something else will happen, it is the nature of computers, and technology in general that 'Murphy' (re Murphy's Law) just loves messing with.

After stacked discounts, he cost me something like $0.21
That's still at least $0.22 too much.
+1
Free is too much.
Heads-up on today's items Soraya and Eliya: Encrypted.
Could you point me to those products as I am finding neither.
That's odd...
I'm seeing them in the store and on their respective pages:
http://daz3d.com/fwsa-eliya-hd-for-victoria-7
http://daz3d.com/soraya-hd-for-rune-7
Looks like the store hadn't caught up for me, thanks.
Added to the list!
(P.S. the Readme's are not available - the index ends at 31999 - http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/31000_31999 )

Looks like they added the Read Me's, but are not updating the Read Me Product Index page, making it even harder to track this stuff.

Thanks - I grabbed the release date from http://www.daz3d.com/fighting-series-staff-arts-for-genesis-3-male (which is given as 2016-06-12 in the Readme) as I couldn't get the new Readmes ...
Interesting to get two release dates for items released on the same day ...
Nah, Staff Arts was released on Sunday as part of http://www.daz3d.com/06-12-when-a-man-loves-a-woman
I see - thank you!
BTW: first post corrected.
Yeah it was kinda weird having some new releases slip in without any banner to group them up at all.
