Render sans texture, clean like product shots.

Hi,

How can I render my models to look like the white, textureless product advert shots but still have the shadows and lighting? I primarily use Dazstudio for drawing reference and would prefer something like I see in these screenshots:

Thank you! :D

there are a couple of options.

1 is to leave the bump and spec in place and just remove the texture maps.  You do this in the surfaces tab. select all the surfaces, click on the diffuse picture, and select none. this leaves the bumps in place and is kinda interesting.

2ndly, you can use a shader. I like the one by SpyroRue at deviantart.  it's just solid grey. I use it pretty regularly. Using any stone or clay shader works really well. I like the iray ones by Khory.

  • Thank you, that works great. I couldn't see that little diffuse picture next to the opacity slider. :)

Will have to check out that shader as well. What are the advantages of using a shader over just a grey diffuse map?

Using a shader preset is more of a "one click" solution—no need to manually remove maps that you don't want (although, unless the preset is specifically for your human figure, you will want to hide the eyelashes). Also a preset might include a tint, just the right amount of glossiness/roughness, etc., or even texture maps or a touch of SSS to simulate some natural material such as marble, wax, bronze, etc.

  • Thanks again for the help. :)
