Lost Genesis 1 characters...?

in New Users
At one point I had a female, male, and child base for Genesis 1. I'm pretty sure. Unless I'm going crazy, which is entirely possible LOL. Now I just have a Unisex grey shaded Genesis or a fiery Genesis. Where did the others go and how do I get them back? When I search for Genesis, they don't show up either. Thanks.

Under Parameters or Shaping there should still be dials...if they are installed...
Basic Child should be under Actor> Universal (or something like that) and the male and female ones should be under the Male and Female sections of Actor.
There are clickable presets for them, but I'm not quite sure where they are at the moment...in the middle of a render and can't check.
Basic Child, Basic Female and basic male should be in Daz Studio Formats\My DAZ 3d Library\People\Genessi\Characters in the Content Library pane.
OK, thanks, I'm rendering something now. They disappeared from the smart content pane, but hopefully they are still in the regular content pane. I have to say, I'm going crazy trying to find things... Sometimes things are in the Poser content, other times, just the materials are in the DAZ content, sometimes one thing has a folder just for itself (one Lisa's Botanical item, an older Stonemason item and a G1 pose set) all are in individual folders and/or categories and there is no obvious organization and I find the only way to find things are going into the alphabetical folders because "find" takes forever. I'm afraid to move things, like I do in Poser, but I now have two Poser folders, my original one with mixed content from other stores and a new one with DAZ stuff only. I guess I can reorganize the Poser folder to make more sense, but I'm afraid to touch the DAZ folders....
Are you searching by filename or database? Datbade searches should be much faster.
That's why I categorize everything using my own system that makes to me -- once I do that I don't have to worry about whether something is in Poser format, DS format, or a mix of both, whether it's Smart or not, or whether the default categories are correct or make sense to me.
This is what i do as well. Otherwise I would be stone cold crazy already...
I don't know, I'm just putting in the name of what I'm looking for. For newer items I try first in the smart pane, for older items on the right. Actually, I'm finding it easiest to go by the alphabetical folders at this point. When I have time, I guess I'll try to put all hair together, all poses together, etc... But I only know how to do that in Poser's runtime, not in the combo of both... How do I make my own folders with things like hair, regular clothes, bathing suits, sci-fi clothes, etc... ?
In Studio, you DO NOT mess with the folders (well, you can, but it is a lot easier not to). Just do all of the arranging through Categories (the database...that's what it's there for). Leaving the actual folders, and thereby installed files, alone greatly reduces the chances of breaking things.
I don't use the Smart Content much anymore as I prefer using the Content Library. However, I was looking for Genesis tonight and also noticed that these figures were missing when I had selected Figures>People>Female>Real World
Apparently, Genesis doesn't show up in the subcategories anymore. Genesis still showed up under the Figures>People>Female and >Male, at least, on my system. I'm pretty sure that Genesis showed up in those subcategories before, though, so it is possible the metadata got changed during an update.
Could be, I haven't done the latest update for Genesis Starter Essentials and I still have Basic Child, Basic Female, Basic Male, Genesis and Fiery Genesis icons showing in Smart Content. Have to try to remember not to update their metadata when I tidy up next.
Edit: Above should read - Base Child, Base Female, Base Male,
I've noticed that Smart Content has People listed in two different places: Figures & People. Choose either one, and you get different results. The results are not accurate either. It's easier just to use the Content Library panel to load your people.
Genesis 1 Female is in Smart Content, but her name is "Base Female". She does not have the word "Genesis" in the name. She is under Figures>People>Female>Real World.
It is the same in mine as well she is called (Base female) then the other side of her is (Base Male)
The categories/locations in the Smart Content pane are all dependent on the metadata...and not all (probably never will be) metadata is up to date, let alone to the latest stnadards. So, yes, not everything will agree with what any one particular person thinks is the correct location, but it is correct (at least most of it is) for when it was released...if it hasn't been updated yet.
It could be worse...they could have decided that the only the current, up to date metadata is the only one that will be displayed.
When I look under People/female, I just have V3 (!) alone and the Genesis/V4 characters (some of them) show up in figures/people/female and Brooke HD for G3 shows up in her own category, forgot the name of it... I have a huge list of things under Lost and Found... I think I found G1 Female again under the product Genesis Essentials or something, but she doesn't show up anymore under female characters. Lisa's Botanicals are spread all over the place under different folders and headings and an old Stonemason product is by itself in some random folder. I think they should hire someone just to redo all the installers and get everything in the right places... I do really like the smart pane when it works...
Actually, all of that stuff is in the right places...at least the actual files are, if they weren't it would be likely they wouldn't show up at all. It seems that your database/meta data is having a problem. There should not be a vast quantity of store items in Lost and Found, if the database is set up/working correctly.
They now have a dedicated "librarian" working solely on fixing all the metadata.
Woohoo! :) Just saw a bunch of product updates in DIM, maybe it's starting...
