Uninstall DAZ 3D

Hi,

I found that DAZ 3D can't do what I want with my mocap data and I need to remove it from my computer to install another package.

I have accidentally unistalled the DAZ uninstaller and subsequently downloaded 2 other free uninstallers but aftert runing the first one, DAZ 3D doesn't appear on the uninstaller lists but can still be launched from my desktop icon.

Can I please get some advice on how to remove this thing?

Cheers

Brad

I have learned (the hard way, naturally) that the DAZ uninstaller doesn't, really.  About all I've ever seen it do is remove the registry entries (and occasionally, but not always, the desktop icons), but in my experience, it did not actually delete any files.

On one occasion, I had problems with DS 4.9, so I decided to back it out and re-install 4.8; it didn't work.  The 4.9 uninstaller said it completed successfully, and the 4.8 installer claimed that it had also completed successfully, but in point of fact, neither statement was true.  I double-clicked the 4.8 icon and, lo and behold, there was the 4.9 splash screen!  Subsequently followed by all of the expected 4.9 behavior (login screen for DAZ Connect, etc.)  Apparently, the 4.8 installer will not overwrite any files that already exist in the target directory, and have a later date-stamp than the file it's trying to write; and the 4.9 uninstaller does not actually remove any files at all.  That, at least, was my own experience.

Here's what I did:  I went to the following directory (assuming you're trying to uninstall the 64-bit Windows version, and allowed the DAZ installer to install into the default location): C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\, and delete everything you find in it -- files, DLLs, subdirectories, the whole crate of bananas.  Then, back up a level in the heirarchy, and delete the \DAZStudio4\ directory.  And then back up another level, and delete the \DAZ 3D\ folder.  (Unless you also have other DAZ products installed, like Cararra.)  You might also want to delete the folders \Content Management Service\, and \PostgreSQL CMS\; these might require going into Administrative Tools, and stopping the relevant services, before it will let you continue.  It should also be noted that you are going to need to be logged in as an administrator in order to be able to do any of these tasks.

Yeah, it's a pain in the never-mind-precisely-where, but that's what I had to do to finally remove DS 4.9 from my system.

And then I turned right around and re-installed it two weeks later.  Some people never learn.
