Problem with turning the light on the screens of a plane cockpit
Hi from France!
In the previous version of DAZ 3D it was possible inside a scene to turn the lights on, for instance of a cockpit screens or a lab screens . SURFACE tab had a slider for that . I am completly lost about that in 4.9 version. Could you please help me to find the way it works
Thanks a lot.

In 3Delight ambient colour white ior light, Ambient Strength high, and Diffuse colour light will make the screen look as if it is lit - to make it cast light you need to use the uberArea shader on the screens (or uberEnvironment 2 in Bounce mode to light the scene). In Iray using the Iray Uber Shader the Emissive colour needs to be non-black, with luminance and so on adjusted as needed.
Thank you Richard for your great explanations
I appreciate your help
I there,
I tried the advice of Richard to light the screens of a cockpit jet on but unfortunatly it failed.
Any idea how to solve it in DAZ 4.9 in order that the cockpitjet'screen is brighter ?
Here's your other thread...

So what, exactly isn't happening?
Can you post an example render and a screenshot of your settings?
Hi mjc1016
In 3delight mode, I don't succeed in lighting on screens for the product "Luxe jet cockpit". I go to Surfaces tab> Editor > then CockpitPanel but the settings have no effect. At each render. The screens are always pale grey. There is no luminescence inside them. Nvidia mode is doing the job but it's to slow for me cause I am making a video, not a picture. The lighting I am using in the scene is aprilYSH (the name for it in the scene tab is " RenCam ") It's okay for me because it looks like uberenvironnemnt and the render is faster.
What do you thing I am doing wrong ?
I have merged your threads so people don't have to switch between them to see what was said.
Having selected the surface what did you then do? Are the screens a separate surface, or are they just part of a single surface showing all of the controls?
If they are a single surface you have two options...create some masks or use the Geometry Editor tool to break them out into a new surface.
When I select any screen all of them are getting selected but there is an orange lign around each of them. In the previous Daz version I could easily light screens on using 3 delight mode > surfaces> and settings.
If there's an orange line around them then that sounds as if they are their own Surface group, which is good. Now, what are you doing to the surface settings?
In CockpitPanel, I try each setting one after another with a render but nothing happens. For instance : metallicity, base color, diffuse roughness, Translucency weight, glossy layered weight, etc. rather hard work ;-)
That's the Iray Uber Shader, not a 3Delight shader.
Oh, what a shame.
Where can I find the 3Delight settings ? Unless this product don't have some.
This http://www.daz3d.com/luxury-private-jet ? It doesn't, judging by the fiel list, have separate 3Delight materials - butt hat doesn't mean you can't apply soem to the screens and any other areas that need adjusting. Select the screen surface as you have been doing, then go to DAZ Studio Formats>My DAZ 3D Library>Light Presets>omnifreaker>UberAreaLight and double-click !UberAreaLight base while holding down the ctrl(Win)/cmd(Mac) key; in the dialogue that opens set Ignore for Maps and click Accept; you now have a light shader applied to the screens, with their original maps - adjust intensity and Ambient colour/strength to get the effect you want.
Hi Richard and mjc,
It works ! Thanks a thousand time
You have been a great help :-D
Glad to have helped.
