Problem with Skin shaders in viewport

Hello,

I am new to 3D modeling and have a basic understanding of how lighting and shaders work. I am limited to using Texture Shaded drawstyle in my viewport since I don't have the most high-end hardware to support IRAY.

The problem I am having is that when I load my character skin surfaces, it doesn't seem to be optimized for the viewport. The skin seems too bright/fuzzy. I don't know if it's because the surface is optimized for IRAY and not OpenGL or if I'm doing something wrong when applying the texture.

What are my options for getting a reasonable image in my viewport?

Thanks!

That is exactly what it is happening, except it's more likely that they are optimized for 3Delight, if you have the 'sparkly fake vampire' look going on.

And without really impacting the final rendered look...no, there isn't much you can do.

  • I see, that was my thought too. Is there a way to decrease the quality of the viewport IRAY in order to quickly render for purposes of working in the model?

Or just trying to think outside the box...are there specific shader categories that can be tuned to produce a better OpenGL image? Perhaps there could be a script to automatically apply the conversion to OpenGL?

Ideally, a set of more modern OpenGL shaders is what's needed.

There are no existing scripts to do it, so manually turning off/down SSS settings is one way.  Another is to apply the 'default' grey shader and then before rendering reapply the materials that should be loaded with the character...

I agree, it seems we are at the mercy of OpenGL developers to produce an update that works more consistently with 3Delight and Iray.
