Do you know if te tie ribbons are removable?

The ties have a separate material zone, so you can at least make them transparent.

Select the hair, go to the surfaces tab, select the surface for the ties, and set the value of the "opacity" parameter to 0 (I think it's "cutout opacity" for Iray).

There might be a material to do that already included in the pack too.
