I would say the two shops have different pricing structures according to the volume they sell.
Which is better depends on what you like.
I shop at both sites and both are interesting.
Base prices at DAZ might be a bit more expensive but there are big sales very regularly, which is not the case at Rendo.
Rendo basically accepts any product submitted to them as long as it works. This means that you can find great products there but also low quality items. DAZ is more selective with what they accept, in terms of quality but also in terms of the type / style of items they want to sell.
Rendo is historically more oriented towards Poser items, though more and more content for DS is being released there too.
There's no moneyback guarantee or sale price guarantee at Rendo.
Oh, and since the latest site redesign, Rendo site is S L O W....
Leana summed it up pretty nicely.
The higher prices here at DAZ store I.M.O. are at least partially caused by the constant steep sales; to earn the same, the base price must be higher. For example, compare the "Fast Grab" items prices, discounted at 70% - to "normal" Rendo prices, and you see that they are roughly the same as Rendo-35% discount. As DAZ often has 60% PA shop sales, which applies to all items older than 60 days, the higher prices make sense if you want to get about as much from an item as you'd do in comparision to selling it at Rendo.
Personally, I shop at both, DAZ and Rendo (and very rarely at Hivewire), but I prefer the shop here. Customer service and the money/sales guarantees are a big factor. At Rendo, I usually shop when I see an items from certain vendors, which I know create outstanding items which are instabuy, while I am more lured into spontanous purchases with items here at DAZ store. Hivewire, I go to there only for the Harry-Horse content.
As far as the forum experience is concerned, Rendo forum doesn't really entice me to join into communication there for various reasons (HW forum has lost me for good recently), and I am a regular here at DAZ forums. I might not agree with everything that's happening here, but I prefer the functionality of the community here - I do get help with the software and inspiration here, which is what I am looking for in a forum. But like the previous point about shopping experience, this is a very personal preference, and I understand that others feel different about this.
So, in the end (and much blabla
), it's back to Leana's listing.
Thanks!
This helps
Well, about "cheaper" a lot has been written already in the posts above.
And "better" is too much personal taste, as anybody could give you a real answer.
When I only look at the shops and the stuff that is offered - leaving forum out of it - neither shop is "better" than the other, as they seem to serve different kind of customers. Here at the DAZ shop, you get the official, family friendly (and because of that sometimes a little bit restricted...) stuff. If you have patience and PC+ sooner or sometimes later everything will come as "a deal", dropping prices to a level where people not earning money with 3D art are able to buy it from their budget set for "a hobby".
At Rendo there are sales, too, but on a more limited scale. Due to lower starting prices, that means they are usually about the same as "deals" at DAZ store. Due to Rendo being not so extremely family friendly as DAZ store, there seem to be more clothing items with morphs for undressing or showing even more bare flesh. And pictures on the item's (and figures') pages to show that bare flesh. Which, when it comes to textures for figures, is quite useful in my opinion.
And not to forget, Rendo has a similiar thing as "PC+" for the DAZ store, with coupons and reduced prices for many items and whatnot...
So, in the end it's personal taste that tells you where to shop what...
As a newbie, PC+ here offers me extremely low prices for a lot of "basic stuff", which is the reason why I spend more money here right now. Noneteless I also bought a couple things at Rendo already, when the prices were interesting (= low) and no same-priced item with the same options was available at DAZ store.
I would say Renderosity Marketplace gets less of high quality content and the Genesis 3/8 male content is limited.
Daz 3D Shop propose more of high quality content and more of diversity.
In term of price, in my case, I spent about $5 for each item at Daz 3D Shop (as a PC member) and about $8 for each item at Renderosity Marketplace (not a Prime member)
so I would say Renderosity Marketplace is more expensive than Daz 3D Shop.
Note: I only purchase content when there is a discount.
Here at DAZ's store, it's easy to find stuff and filter it in the shop so you're looking at relevant search results to quickly get what you need. The checkout process is fast and easy, and DAZ offers both customer and techincal support. I check DAZ's site regularly during the day for sales and deals, and I appreciate that the store works well on my iPhone. (Wish the fora worked, too, but oh well...)
Rendo's site needs a total redesign from a customer-centric point of view. If visiting DAZ is like a day at the park, visiting Rendo is like going to the dentist. It's my shop of last resort for items I just cannot buy elsewhere.
Each site has a reasonable return policy and I’ve successfully returned items that weren’t as advertised at both stores.
I think both sites have a sale going virtually all the time.
I have found that myself. Daz is pickier about the quality of its items, and there is very little G3M/G8M content at Rendo. I have a harder time finding things at Rendo and Daz sales can more steeply discount than Rendo. Prime Flash is like Fast Grab. I joined now that Prime is $30 bucks a year.
I mostly shop at Daz, but also shop at Rendo and Hivewire, and previously at Runtime DNA. PA's here at Daz will also sell at Rendo, and you won't find duplication of items. All stores have good stuff.
I've found otherwise, I'm afraid. While I can't speak for the technical quality if the various items, I have seen that the accurate depictions of various models with which I am familiar are more likely at Rendo, as well as more common. I won't go into details so as to not offend any PAs here, but if the devil is in the details, items at Rendo seem to be... less bedevilled? Or at least, more accurate and/or complete.
And I don't recall buying a room at Rendo with no doors. A missing wall, perhaps, but those can be found here as well. I think.
I've been spending more there, in large part because I'm not into G8, or scenery and other things that will only work in the newer versions of Studio.
I've pretty much mined out DAZ on older stuff that I need, but Rendo still has some that I haven't purchased (yet).
I also can only speak for the things I have bought at Rendo, and there has not been a single one that left me unsatisfied. They all gave to me what was shown on the promo sites for the items/figures.
Yes, it might be that there are items that lack quality. But as there usually is a ton of promo pictures with nearly all options shown, it is quite easy to see the quality one can expect when he/she buys something. Here at the DAZ shop, there are usually great promo pics, but way too often there are more promo pics than real information. At Rendo, items have their readme available BEFORE buying them, so it's easy to see what really comes with it.
???
I believe that all readmes are available before the purchase here at Daz as well. To the best of my knowledge, any available pdf documentation is always linked to the product readme.
You can access readmes before buying here too, just use the following link with the product's sku: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/<sku>/start
If you have the DAZ browser add-on you'll have a link to the readme directly on the product page.
Okay, so I say it differently: At Rendo I can just follow a link on the products page to see the readme, without having to know what a "sku" is or having to use a browser addon.
Don't most products, especially the newer ones, have a link to the Read Me right next to the SKU in the product information?
That is not a native feature of the shop. That is added by the browser addon: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/106296/announcing-daz-deals-browser-add-on/p1
Hah! Shows you what I know - so it is. Thanks! (Obviously, I use the addon.)
