Help for a modelling newbie

Please, please, please can someone help me. I'm trying to make a transition from failing to model in Poser as my Poser installation always crashes when trying to make bones in figures to modelling in Daz studio - partly as it has been my preferred software for years since I first tried it back in DS2 days but also given my disliking of Poser and it for me it's unreliability I refuse to pay for an updated version of application crashes. I have only kept Poser for the purpose of trying to make props but now I want to actually create figures and add-ons however I'm stuck.
I have recently downloaded a number of tutorials, the best that I have acquired from the market place is by Blondie9999 written back 2012 - it is brilliantly written and very clear with concise screenshots except one HUGE flaw with both of my installations of DAZ ..... I don't have the Polygon Group Editor in DS4.7 Pro on my laptop or DS4.8 Pro on my desktop stopping me following the walk through and I can't see a way of launching it as it doesn't feature on the drop downs as a hidden feature, market place searches don't appear to find it as an add-on, but not sure why I would need it as an add-on if I'm on the Pro versions as DS tells me.
So my question, how the heck do I group my imported .obj file so that I can assign bones? I seem to have figured the rest of it out including the boning ... I have made a test figure with bones in and IK chains on tentacles but - as you'd expect, the bones and IK's don't work and it remains it's static and unposeable because it is not assigning polygons to the group names that import from C4D 10 that they were modelled in.
Any advice/tips please? At the moment I have not upgraded to DS4.9 as I am not happy about what I have read with the new CMS system, I work offline a lot and concerned that I will therefore have no library if I take the plunge so not prepared to take that step yet. Also I don't think that would be necessary as everyone has been modelling before the release of 4.9 so can't see as that would be the answer.
Thanks in an advance for any help guys (and gals :) )

Yes Blondie9999's excellent tutorial was the ice breaker for the task at hand. There is no flaw. What happened was after tutorial was written [which happens often by the way] the program was CHANGED. They split up the tool and renamed the parts. Think if you look at the "geometry" edit button and do a lot of right-clicking you find the way. [working on memory as no D/S on this laptop right now].
I'm working with D/S4.6. You do not need to upgrade to 4.9 to do this.
Polygon group Editor was renamed the Geometry Edit tool.
Thank you Wendy. Most helpful, a clip round the ear for me that it's taken me 8 months to see the response but I have now registered with your site and have to say i love the content.
