How do I get Bryce to output the animation in a numbered animation series?

    If you mean output individual images of the animation into a file: click on Render Animation, then click on the small arrow next to Output Module, and then BMP sequence.

    All I get is an option for a pict file. Am I looking in the wrong place?

    You can use Alt + Shift +R to bring up the menu or go via File > Render Animation
