Daz Studio 4.9.1.30 Iray crash on Nvidia driver 364.72

tedharris600tedharris600 Posts: 22

I'm experiencing a crash when opening Daz Studio 4.9.1.30 with the latest Nvidia driver 364.72.  Daz Studio viewport is set to Iray preview mode. A screen snapshot, Studio log file, and Windows application and display error files are attached.  I am running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit on an Intel I7-4770k with 32gbs of ram running at 1600mhz.  My video card is a reference Nividia GTX 970.  These crashes have been happening with the past 3 Nvidia drivers.  Nvidia driver version 362.00 works properly.  I believe someone else had reported a similar issue with the last Nvidia driver.

The latest Nvidia driver has features I would like to use for other programs.

Your help is appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm running Nvidia 364.51 and DS 4.9.1.30 Beta. I am seeing Daz Studio crash when the preview mode is Iray if I have an HDRI in the render settings environment and the Iray preview mode is Interactive. If I remove the HDRI map it does not crash. If I change the mode to Photoreal it does not crash. Can you reproduce any of those results?

Thank you for replying barbult.  Yes, I can reproduce your results. As you discovered, the solution seems to be to set the Iray preview mode to Photoreal if Studio is to be fully functional with the latest Nvidia drivers.  However, this causes the viewport to become a lot more sluggish than when using Interactive mode. Hopefully, Daz will have an answer soon.

Yes I could reproduce  same problem about iray interective mode, with these drives (364.72 and other drivers released after 362.00) ) when I use interective mode, DS freeze,  and I can not move mouse pointer anymore,.  ,, (windows 10 , with 980 Ti video card . ds 4.9 current version)

then I roll back to 362 again.. it seems work without prblem (though I often  see,, unexpected freeze,, about daz studio   ^^;)

but why Nvidia still release driver as product version,, which not work well for daz studio current version?  DAZ need to ask Nvidia.

(because,,many DAZ studio user, buy Nvidia card,, because of iray function (which DAZ pay for Nvidia I believe)

Then I hope,, there is sticky  topic about these driver version compatibility , at least about Nvidia  dirver version  and iray.

I have submitted a help request. I hope you will do the same, so they know that I am not the only one having this problem.

    358.91 and 4.9.1.30 of Daz.

Basicallly if a driver is game ready, leave it the hell alone.

If you play the game - hope IRAY still works.

Personally, I'd roll back your driver, presuming nothing suggested works.

Go to Device Manager, find your main display card (if more than one card installed) Right Click on it and select properties: see image attached.

Glad I found this thread. Now I know why my beta installation is sluggish and the main install is fine. The preview settings are different.

I submitted a ticket as well.

I know its not been long but has anyone had a response on their ticket? I'm wondering if its worth bothering to submit one...

It is not new problem,, and I can not believe, daz have  not recognize it yet.   Because  I remember when I ask the problem in forum

I was suggested to just roll back, by DAZ man too.  .  but  if there are many report and user request DAZ,

DAZ  may  conntact Nvida I feel.  I will  send report in Nvidia too.

I submitted a ticket too - hopefully the more people that raise this issue the more seriously they'll take it.

    Request #215785

and sent  ticket for,, Nvidia support,,  maybe,, next  driver version can work well ?!

    then document ,, http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/364.72/364.72-win10-win8-win7-winvista-desktop-release-notes.pdf

    there seems no discribe about aprication issue with daz studio 4.9  (3ds max are there) ^^;

  • I have the GTX 970, and with the latest update my computer now freezes completely when I use interactive rendering with Iray. However, it works with photoreal mode.

  • I've also seen that rendering in interactive mode with an image loaded n the environment map crashes Studio with the new Nvidia driver. The type of image loaded in the environment map doesn't matter.

Just an update for everyone. I've had an answer to my ticket to technical support and they have confirmed that there is an incompatibility between Iray and the latest Nvidia drivers that use VR compatibility. They're working on it, but in the meantime suggested that I roll back to the 353.82 version drivers as these are confirmed to work correctly.

     I was suggested, 2 options.from dev team .

" It appears that if you roll back to driver 362.00 and then go straight to 364.72 you do not get this issue." or ( just stay with 362.00).

But unfortunately,, when I  go straight to 364.72 (from 362.00,,, which I have used)  ,  by Geforce experience , with custom "clean up-date" option,

then , reboot my pc,  364.72  still cause same problem (change  photoreal to intrerective mode not work  and  freeze my PC.)

after all, I return 362.00  (un-install driver,, then install 362.00 ) .  and same scene can use intrective mode.

my conclusion is not use 364.72 if I use interective mode.   (windows 10 64bit,  nvidia reference gefroce 980 ti X2 )

(though I do not know, why dev team  said,, 362.00 and then go straight to 364.72 do not get this issue)

Yes, I've had this same response and its utter rubbish. I've been on the 362.00 drivers for a while now and I'm still getting the crashes constantly. They've already admitted that this is an error forced by Nvidia but now it seems like Nvidia are trying to avoid having to resolve it by giving out dodgy workaround advice.

  • Hello ad "Ditto," have just sent ticket with a print screen page of these threads:):)

I feel this problem seems  return with new driver 375.57  (not beta driver)  ,  and current daz studio 4.9.3.71 (beta)  and 4.9.2.70 (product build)

I feel laugh,, almost one years actually daz iray interective mode not work (now ds have new draw setting blend mode too,, ) with newest nvidia driver,

then  some month it work,, but  after all,, it happen for me,, when I up-date driver..

I know,, we may need not use newest driver,, but the problem is everytime DS only show these problem for me,,

I use blender,, or I play many 3d game,, or I use 3d cpat,, only about DAZ program always something wrong and show these vide driver issue with each version. devil

DAZ can not keep stability with those driver?  if so,, DAZ may better seriously think about offer "recommend driver version" as user can find easy.
