Converting a set of old Surfaces to iRay

Hey, I tried external searching to find out how to convert an old style set of Surfaces to PBR. You know the old style is missing a Material ID or a Basing Mixing menu droip down and I can't find where to add those properties to the old set of surfaces.

I do know copying a PBR set of surfaces and pasting to a old style set of surfaces doesn't work though. How to do this?

Thanks.

I'd be curious to know this, too. I have a lot of old Poser content that I'm curious to see in IRAY.

You start by applying the Iray Uber Base to the item...you can use the ctl-click option to preserve the current image maps.

Ah, thanks very much. I thought it would be involved & complicated. Well maybe it is if I saw what was in that duf file.

I made the Iray Base a custom action and put it on a toolbar. One click converts all selected surfaces.

I just made a KB shortcut for it.

Oh and to add when you do convert to Iray shader some adjustment is needed, generally speaking, to get more realistic results, if not going for realism then the simple cnversion should be good to go, generally speaking. :) It all depnds on the 3DL settings in the first place.

Something to keep in mind — if the Iray Uber Base only has a Poser material setup to work with, that's all you'll get out of it; you still have to manually add the Poser Shader Tree settings that D|S ignores, just like updating/converting to a 3Delight material.

That said, I have sometimes had better results starting from a Poser material than a D|S material. It's one of those "it depends" things, some combinations Just Work™ better than others.

And remember, it isn't actually neccessary to convert every surface. Unless you want to tweak Iray settings, you can leave them alone and the auto-conversion will give equally good results.

No I am a tweaker, I just cannot help myself. Yeah it the object is far away I don't tend to mess with things.
