Creating folders or groups of items?

How is this done?  I have a ship model with a lot of parts. I have created New Groups in hopes of placing all exterior parts into one group and all interior parts in another. I can't drag and drop them. And changing their parent to the new Group doesn't work either. Any tips?

Drag and drop in the Scene pane? That should work. You can also select the items and then Create the new group to add them at the outset.
