Iray Mesh Lights

Why don't Iray Meshlights show up under the "Lights" tab? It seems silly that they don't. I have to select them in "Scene" then use "Surfaces" to adjust them, kinda counter intuitive and bassackwards seeming. . .

Because a meshlight is a surface shader on a model, it differs from a non-meshlight in only one set of parameters. The same is true, except that the light really is using a different shader, in 3Delight.
Because there's no such thing as an Iray mesh light. What you are calling a mesh light is merely geometry with a specific shader setting applied to it. Only Iray understands these as having the potential to emit light, and by how much. It's very possible (in fact more likely) that a geometry with its emissive property set doesn't provide any scene lighting at all. It's just a self-luminous object. How is D|S to know the difference?
Thanks!
