Light in DS 4.9

Same scene but different result.

I can't get the scene light that is like the 3Delight Render in my IRay render.

But in the 3Delight render the skin and clothes looks not right.

I am new to DS Studio and can't find out why it not use the scenelight in IRay Render.

The two render engines are fundamentally different. Iray is a phyically based render engine. It models / simulates actual light behavior. The characteristics you can chanage are not the same.

  • Okay but how do I so get the light shown on my screen in my IRay renders?

My screen looks like the 3Delight render.

And if that is not possible how do I change the scene to look like what I get in a IRay render?

For the bike, it should be just a matter of enabling the emission properties on the surface that is lighted...same for the sign in the alley.

For the other light in the alley, I'm not sure.

But without knowing specifics about the items used, it's a bit hard to be more specific in the instructions as what to exactly do.

We need more details...what is the set being used, what lights in 3Delight?

Without knowing what is there, it isn't possible to say what needs to be done to convert it over.

  • Gothic City by TheAntFarm and the lightset that come with it.

Yamaki Rapture if a futuristic motorcycle with flair. This 3D vehicle comes with DAZ Studio Subsurface Skin Shaders to make the glow come to life.

Victoria 6 and Rectifier for Genesis 2 Female.

So if that can't been use in IRay Render how do I make that sort of light using IRay?

  • The bike and the city both have a lot of glowing surfaces from what I can see. In order to get these to glow in Iray you will need to into the surfaces tab and convert them to Iray shaders. You may as well, in fact, select all the surfaces to begin with (say, on the bike) and convert them. In the Surfaces pane (Editor tab) select everything then go to the Presets tab (still in Surfaces) and go to Shaders/Iray. You will see a white sphere labelled "!Iray Uber Base". Double click on that. Then go back to Editor and if you open up an individual surface you will see that all the shader settings with have changed to Iray ones. Now select a surface that should glow (you could use the Surface Selection Tool if it is not clear which these are). You will see a shader parameter called Emission—click on that. I can't tell you what you will see as I don't have these models, but it may have maps in Emission Color and/or Luminance, or it may not. If it has maps they glow may work immediately (although you will probably have to change the Luminance value to make it brighter). If it does not have maps then the Emission Color will be black (0, 0, 0). This turns emission off. Change this colour to anything you like (say red or orange) and the surface will glow with that colour.

I've attached a screencap of the setting I used on orange lights in a render I did. This is an oldish Petitpet vehicle that has no Iray shaders.
