Weapons of War pack: issues adding material to a prop

Hi guys,

I'm using the Waepons of War pack, and for some reason I can't add a material to a prop (so for instance a dagger material to the dagger prop). It shows that it's adding, but the prop remains a black outline, no matter which weapon I try to use.  I tried to rendering to see if it shows up afterwards, but nope. Anyone else had any issues? Or any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks! K.

Sometimes, material can only be changed if you select the surface in the surface tab. Does that make any difference if you try it that way?

Have you tried rendering in both 3Delight and Iray?  It may be that the materials use shaders that don't translate well and only work in one of them.

I was beginning to wonder if anyone else would ever report problems with this item. I've had major issues with the materials since the day I bought them, and according to Support it's "working as designed", which I quite frankly do not believe. There are similar problems with the Clan War Pack, Griffin War Pack, and Lion War Pack.

I opened a help ticket on this back in November 2014, it bounced back and forth until next March, when I was told my rendered views were a product of looking at materials in the Viewport and there was nothing wrong at all. Ticket closed with no way to re-open it.

All of the materials use UberSurface, so they do need adjustment anyway if you render in Iray.

All of the materials have the Diffuse Colour set at an almost-black grey, which I always considered a Poser thing. This means everything is black in the Viewport.

All of the materials have a massively overstrength reflection map added, which I suspect is distorting all colours in the renders, and causes a minimal difference between the "clean" and "bloody" textures.

It isn't often things go this wrong, but I consider this a total failure of the helpdesk system; I was ignored for months, then fobbed of with nonsense replies until the ticket was closed. The only reason I didn't ask for a refund is that I'm working on my own materials settings, when I have the time to poke at them.

Incidentally, the materials are applying when you click on the materials settings, it's just that you can't see the difference in the Viewport, and there's a barely seen difference in the render.

I just tried rendering this in 3DL with no trouble.  I had Iray on at first and it rendered black, then switched to 3DL.

They work fine for me in 3Delight.

Well, yes, they do render in 3Delight, but they just look weird. Here's a comparison I just did of the clean and dirty textures, rendered in 3Delight, and using the old freebie five-point Basic Light Set converted to Uber spotlights. The only one I could honestly say matches both the content thumbnails and the store promo pics is the Short Sword Scabbard. All the others show signs of something like the overpowering reflection map I mentioned. I tried to tell Support this, but they weren't interested.

They may work as intended it is just they look ridiculously shiny and nothing like you would except a real functional weapon to look like is the problem.
