I'm VERY new to DAZStudio so please bare with me....

I can't seem to get any effect from adding lights. I've tried playing around with Point Lights and Spot Lighs. Here are some of the things I've tried after reading this forum:

Enviroment Mode is set to Scene Only

The camera light is off

The lights's illumination is set to "on"

Photometric mode is "On"

You will have to change the Tone Mapping settings. They work the same as a digital camera.

  • I'm also not seing any effect as I place the lights, almost as if they're not there at all

You wont see any light effects until you render, I just noticed that is the viewport window, or set the viewport to Iray or open the Aux Viewport and set that to iray.

The Tone Mapping settings are almost definitely what you need to look at. They work like the exposure controls on a camera. The default values are set up to match the default Environment light, which happens to be a bright sunny day outdoors. If your light setup isn't close to a match for that, then any render you make is going to be badly exposed until you change those Tone Mapping settings.

Make sure you turn up the "Luminuous Flux" value of the light bright enough to produce a noticable effect. I usually start with around 250,000, but sometimes it might take millions of lumens. I circled it in this image:
