Help for a complete Newbie?

Hi, thanks for reading this - and apologies for any dumb questions!

I am completely new to Daz Studio - I have installed it no problem, and started to play around. However, I don't think I have everything installed fully - If I go to people/female for example, I have lots of empty yellow windows with a warning triangle, as though the content is not there?  I have thumbnails for Basic Female and for Genesis, but others like Barefoot Dancer and Genesis 2 Base Female have no thumbnail, just a yellow square with a warning triangle.  I clearly haven't installed some things along the way?  This is the same for everything - under Hair for example, I only have a few thumbnails, all the others are yellow triangles for missing content... Charm Hair and Basic Hair, etc are missing.

I've been using Install Manager, and have a list of 44 installed items... I thought I'd successfully installed Genesis 2 Starter Essentials and so on - basically I don't know where I'm going wrong and could use some help!

Thanks in advance,

Jim

did you happen to have Daz Studio open when you were installing your products? You can try going into DIM and click on your install tab. Select all products, RT click over the name of a pack and select re-import metadata, then all selected. Make sure Daz Studio is closed when you do it. Are you getting any warnings when trying to load something? Also check that you are running Postgre which controls your database. On a Windows system go to your task manager and select your processes tab. Scroll down and see if its running.

  • Thanks for the reply Frank - yes, I think Daz was running when I installed everything.  I tried going into DIM (with Daz closed) and re-importing metadata, but it hasn't changed anything... I checked Postgre, and yes, it was running.

I think I'll uninstall the whole thing and try re-installing!

  • Hi anyone who may be able to help - I'm dangerously close to a sense of humour faliure... sad

Well I completely uninstalled Daz, DIM, everything - including deleting all folders with any Daz content.  I did a registry clean, restarted, etc.  I started a completely fresh install, and I'm right back to square one.  In fact, it's worse than before!  I simply don't have any content - or it doesn't know the correct path, or something.  I used DIM to install everything, and I have nothing waiting to be installed - it says I have 45 items installed.  When I open Daz, I immediately get an error message saying content/people/genesis/genesis.duf does not exist.  Then I have endless triangles where content cannot be found:

As you can see, I really need help!!

Thanks in advance, I'm close to giving up... I can't even get started!

    Jim

  • Never mind - my clever wife has figured it out, I think!  The path was wrongly set by DIM, we reset it and bingo, all the items appeared laugh

I may actually have a chance to try 3D modelling now (I'm sure I'll be back with many other problems) wink

Being as its a new system you may want to Re-Import your metadata just to be sure it recognizes everything.

  • Thanks!

You can do this easily by opening DIM, go to the installed tab, click on to select all products, rt click and select Re-Import Metadata

  • Thanks for the help Frank, I really appreciate it.

You've just discovered what many of us consider one of the more ridiculous glitches in DAZ|Studio — DIM and D|S don't talk to each other in agreeing on content locations. The default settings are supposed to match up in a pristine installation, but some people have discovered it sometines goes worng; you must check the DIM and D|S Content Directory Manager settings yourself.
