Re-installing issues..

So, I was playing around with some stuff and had to basically wipe my Daz Install and currently trying to redo it.
I ran into a few problems, as one thing I wanted to get everything off my C:\ .. well atleast as much as possible..
I read some posts, and in DIM .. I changed the paths, and even note that I did change the current updates install to selected path..
Everything in Daz DIM was set to f:\apps\daz . ... everything seemed to install fine via the DIM, but once I loaded Daz 4.9, there were many things that had triangles and when tried to load error'ed with file could not be found...
Is it really not possible to move the Daz DIM content without it messing up?

Have you changed the paths in the DS content directory manager to reflect the change in install directory?
No I didnt.. I will try another reinstall and see if that helps... hopefully so, as I overlooked that step..thanks.
Can you confirm it's possible to move everything like this? Or does some content require to be on C:\ ?
No need to reinstall, just use the Content Directory Manager to point DS to the content diectories you set in DIM - or use Rob's sample script to read the settings from DIM http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config_import/start For 4.9 you will still need to go into the Content Diectory Manager and manually edit the Connect path.
You can alter the download folder used by DIM to be on the drive of your choice, then copy across the currently downloaded zips. You can also, if you want, edit the .ini file to change the location for the Maifests and Thumbnail folders.
Ok, Finally getting everything back in...
One question tho, to make sure I'm not going to have any problems...
I am planning on 1 directory to install everything to, wether it be from the DazStore, or a freebie... all in one place..
Kind of having problems with the DazConnect update's aswell, only have 2 .. bustop and gen2 essentials ... they both are hanging up around 80% ... close and restart Daz doesnt seem to be helping either :/
So anyone have any concerns about keeping all the files in one place,
what I sort of am thinking about it, I backed up the 2 locations.. the original content dir on c:\users\public and the one I was using c:\users\mydocuments ..
I'm not sure if I've got all the downloads I've been collecting, and less say it's been alot.. (alot) ... can I just merge these two directories into the new one?
Assuming ofcourse that I've installed via DIM all the content that was there...
Then assuming I forgot to install something, would it see it? or break it until it's redownloaded and installed with DIM?
I do like the DIM stuff as it's the only stuff that shows up in the smart content, so while i'm waiting for the updates to finish I just have had time to think about what I could do, dangerous I know...
almost 3 hrs, waiting for the Dazconnect to update gen2 essentials .. wow ..
but it has moved from 80% to 98% .. just holding me up, cause I dont wanna load anything else while Daz is open and doing this.
Btw, it's stalled like 3 times now.. I've caught in within 5 mins each time :/
I tried to change default directory and ran into so many problems I just wiped it off and started again, but Daz had a few hidden files that you need to hunt down, that dont uninstall with the rest of the program, and those files seem to store your preferences. So I wiped everything off, reinstalled and ended up with the same directory errorrs, no matter what I did. It took me forever to sort out the mess. I've learned my lesson and now don't mess with the default directory.
If anyone still comes by this thread, I'm wondering something...
Is there a way to remove Free-Content?
I've tried the delete from the content manager before, and when I reload Daz the item shows back up...
also, have some Triangles on some of my DIM stuff.. the items work, and when loaded and taken to materials, etc .. it finally shows the correct icon.. missing and Icon? anyway I can fix it?
or just report to the maker and wait for an update?
What do you mean by removing free content? Stopmit from appearing in your lst of available items? I don't think so using Daz Connect, though you can hide items you don' havet downloaded or installed in DIM (maybe add the items in DS to a new group named Hidden, though I haven't looked to see if you can delberately exclude a group from showing).
I mean the free content that you just copy and merge into the content directory... obviously removing all the files without and installer is no mear task, but I have noticed that when I select delete on them from within DAZ that they just show back up... like it just removed the item from DAZ, and when I reload DAZ the item is back like it was found again and re-added.
From the Poser Formats or DAZ Studio Formats lists? That shouldn't happen (though deelting that way will leave textures and geometry/asset files).
is there a better method?
If they are packed according to the current standards, it makes them fairly easy to remove.
Also, if you keep the zip archived you can just look in it and use your OS file manager to navigate to the folders listed.
Well crapola ...
So I finally got everything accept the Gen2&Bus stop installed an updated (those two going slow all day) .. and finally I started to just use Daz cause I was bored, and well...
Looks like I'll be reinstallying everything again, as I got a scene put together then... then.... I started to use shaders, and well... none could be found.. or so Daz said, they were all listed, but when I clicked on them, it said could not be found .. lolz ... Guess I'll have to put a new SSD on my todo list..
The vast majority of 'shaders' are not shaders, but rather, are presets...so unless the base is installed the presets will give errors when used.
Which ones, in particular were having problems?
It's prolly the install I did, I've noticed little quirks in the program that were not there in a factory load... I'm currently going to reinstall everything again, lol.
This time I guess I'll just move the freebie library to a different drive... which by now, I could have just copied and pasted it and changed the location in the manager.. but eh, live and learn..
As for the shaders, it was like AA Iray, Paradorphin, Willmap...and more... again, I think it was my install not the shaders as they all worked flawlessly before.
So after messing this up, I dont know what the defualt paths should be.. I've removed Daz and Install Manager, even ran CCcleaner but it's not removing the settings.
Also, if you someone could explain the path setup a little better.. I'm reading the dazhelpdesk and I think it's mostly referring to the options within Daz Studio.
In the Daz Install Manager, i need all the original path for Content.
In Daz, I need the original Install Paths.
Then to help me set this up,
I want to use the original install Path for stuff from the Store,
then I want to setup another Directory for items I buy from other sites.
finally I need a directory for free stuff I download. .
please and thank you :)
DIM uses My DAZ3D Library in the Public Documents folder (usually C:\Users\Public\Documents on Windows), DS uses that and \DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library in the user's own documents folder (C:\Users\You\Documents if you haven't changed it).
OK, and I'm also confused on this ..
in the DIM, it has an Installation Tab that has spots for 64&32bit, and the tool tip says not to put them in the same folder.. ok..
So then what is the last tab Applications for that has my Daz4 installation folder? I'm confused, and I think this one of the ways I boofed my system.
The 32 and 64 bit paths are the base paths for application installs - usually the Program Files folders for Windows. The other directories on that tab are the locations for content installation, and should generally be folders you have set as Daz Studio or Poser content directories. The Applications tab lists the exact location of several applications (if you have them) - Poser, DAZ Studio, Photoshop etc. - for which DIM can install plug-ins and other add-ons that need to go to the application folder (rather than a content directory).
Bah.. It's so hosed now,... nothing is showing up at all.. I think it looks right, but something somewhere is not right..
The path C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library needs to be added in DS under "Daz Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats".
ok, I added that... but still nothing is showing up :(
Er, thanks to the helpdesk searches, I reset the database and now it's showing some content in smart content, but everything says it's not installed.. .I will not uninstall everything and re-instal via DIM, hope this fixes it ..
Finally.. everything seems to be re-installing through DIM fine...
now to work on getting the free stuff installed and working.. hope all goes well.
You don't need to reinstall everything, just re-import metadata.
Well, I finally got it setup the way I needed it...
I have now 2 content folders linked in Daz .. if I only had read the howto on the forum first, then I wouldnt have gotten confused and messed it all up.. heh. :)
thanks again :)
