Bone pinning not working

My sincerest apologies for this really newbish question. I tried website documentation (seems to be written for some very old version), tried searching this forum (problem mentioned repeatedly but no definite answer), so I decided to ask it.

So, it's a recently downloaded Daz Studio Pro 4.9.0.63. I want to create an animation with one hand stuck in place (holding a rail). How do I pin a bone? The pinning tool in the upper left corner of the viewport does not appear to do anything - even if I select both Pin Transform and Pin Rotation, the hand moves around with other bones as usual.

it shouldn't move as usual, but the pinning is not all that strong so if the pose is awkward it's easy to break the connection. You also need to be moving a bone a reasonable distance from the pinned bone or there's no play for the IK to work with.

  • Still can't tell the difference. This pinning thing is, like, extra 'not all that strong'. :) I had an old version of Daz 3D installed on another rig in maybe 2008 and it did not have this issue.

Anyway, thank you very much for your help. I'll try some other product.

You may have been using the Active Pose tool before, where pinning is more robuts but it allows posing only by dragging on bones in the viewport and so is less controllable.

It would be pretty cool if Daz could incorperate a pinning strength that you could adjust.
