Could someone explain to me what happened? (Screen caps)

See attached.

Products used: Genesis figure, Tamesis skin, Eastern Riding Wear (wardrobe), Wildmane hair

While the black figurine thing is a first, I've also had a problems with lighting in renders. They will come out either insanely bright or overly dark. I am unsure of whether the two problems are related, but if someone could help me troubleshoot two birds with one rifle, the other issue is attached.

A couple of thoughts from me:

    1. You are doing an Iray render, but is your Genesis character's skin using 3Delight shaders? (Try looking under Surfaces - pick the face or something and see what shader is listed at the top of the panel) If it's DAZ Studio default shader that should get automatically translated to a usable (though not ideal) Iray setting, but if it is OmHumanSurface or AoASubSurface then that might explain the black skin in the render, as Iray doesn't know what to do with those.

    2. In the first screenshot you are using the Perspective Camera for your render - the over-bright image in your third picture might be a result of the camera headlamp. Create a "real " Camera (click on  "Create" in the main toolbar and select Camera - in the window that pops up you can set it to match the current perspective view. The go to the Camera tab and turn the headlamp "off".

Edit to Add: When you turn the headlamp off, the viewport will go too dark to see anything - you can type Ctrl-L to return to visibility without affecting the render itself.

Also, you could change the renderer from Iray to 3Delight at the top of the Render Settings tab - Iray is a recent addition to DAZ Studio and popular for its potentially very lifelike renders, but 3Delight still works and may be useful while you are finding your feet with cameras, lighting, etc.

Outside of what MelanieL said, in Iray, you also get a light blowout if you have a distant light with default strength in the scene.
