Mesh lights often look better on detailed skin closeups than photometric lights (thus the incredibly stunning skin in the promos).  It's a set of morphing mesh lights, so it's a way to set up mesh lights in a scene faster and easier than creating primitives to use for that.

so its worth the buy for general useage as well/

Probably.  It seems like a pretty flexible item.  You're going to have to do the work of placing the lights and turning them up or down for distance from your object, but it's a bit less work than otherwise.  It's in MY cart. ;)
