trying to load a 3rd party item

Hey there. I have an item I'm trying to load into a scene that I purchased on anther site. I had gotten the item to work with no problems, but recently had to reinstall everying on a new cimputer. Since then I haven't been able to get the item to load. I, in fact, can't even get it to appear in the content library. All of the folders for the item appear, but when I selet them they are empty. I know the files are there, I can open window explorer (even through Daz) and see the obj. files and everything else. I can even clock and drag them into Daz to get them to sort of load into the scene.
Any idea what I can do to get them to appear through the content directly in Daz?

What is the full path and filename/extension of the item?
For the obj. file it is as follows: C: > Users > Holden > Documents > DAZ 3D > Studio > My Library > Geometries > Tentacle
I think that's what your asking for?
Does it have a .cr2? The .obj won't show up directly
It does, under Libreies > Characters, but those files are not showing up in Daz either.
OK, first search for the CR2 in Windows Explorer if that in not showing up in DAZ. It sounds like you are missing a Poser Content directory location in the DAZ Studio configuration. You add the correct location(s) in DAZ Studio Preferences.
If once DAZ Studio shows the product for you to load in a scene, when it tells you it can't find the obj it needs for the product, it will say it can't find the obj do you want to browse for it and then navigate to the top level of the content folder it should be in and do a search for the file name and when it finds it select it to be loaded.
Are you looking in Content Library > Poser Formats > Figures?
I find the easiest place to find content is in the alphabetical listings -> Content Library - Products -> Numeric and Alphabetic sublistings
If it's a third party item it won't be there unless it comes with metadata.
How do I do this? I looked under Edit-Prefrences and didn't see that as an option.
Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, it look slike you're using the defaults so it shoud be listed under both Daz Studio Formats and Poser Formats.
Okay, so now what folder do I tell it to select? This is what is already selected (see attachment).
And thanks, in advance, for helping me out with this.
Now go to the Content Library pane and look under Poser Formats > Figures
It's there but you must for to 'Content Library' tab at the top of the 'Preferences' dialogue that will pop up & then on that tab click the 'Content Directory Manager' near the bottom. They will big up another config dialogue, the 'Content Directory Manager' that will have Add, Edit, and Delete buttons to the left and 4 areas to configure for your content: the brand new with 4.9 'DAZ Content Manager', the old 'DAZ Studio Formats', the 'Poser Formats' and the 'Other Import Formats'
You want to add a Poser Format location to the same place you add a 'DAZ Studio Format' path for and additional Poser Format path for each Poser runtime directory you have. In Poser 10 by default that is only 2 other locations.
For Other Import Formats, I've never used it but I suppose if you have many collada, FBXes, Wavefront objs other other formats DAZ Studio could import you could sort the types into seperate directories and add a 'Other Import Format Directory location for that import type.
That's not appearing...

Okay, I figured it out! I had it installed in the wrong area. I wasn't putting the files in the runtime folder, I was putting their content in the folder above them. It's working now, thanks for helping me get this figured out!
OK, that's good. But the scene shot you sent preveously doesn't have the popup Preference dialogue open. To do that, if you still like on the top left right next to File is Edit and on that dropdown menu is Preference near the bootom (it has two gears running as an icon to the left).
Ciao
Okay, got another related question.
If I understand correctly, you can no longer add Meta Data to items in the new verison of Daz (which I have). Someone on costumer support had told me that you can still catagorize items. I can see the button to bring up the screen to do that. But no matter what I do, after clicking accept it never adds catagorization. Any idea how to actually do this now?
You can add metadata to non-Daz items,
Can you post a screenshot of the categorization screen and of Content Library > Categories after you add it?
