Duplicate formulas

This has probably already been asked but a quick search did not find it. Something happend and now when I load any genesis 9 figure I get an error "Duplicate formulas found in file..." I uninstalled and reinstalled Genesis 9 but it still happens. Any advice as to how to fix it. I can still use the Gen 9 figure, just slows loading abit.

Thanks in advance.

Reinstalling the base package won't work, because it's almost certainly associated with a specific character. You need to check the log files to find out specifically which morphs are broken, then report the problem character to customer support so it can be fixed. (And quite probably uninstall that character while you're waiting for the fix).
  • More likely it is two specific characters that use the same names, so any links (between a full morph and head/body morphs, or between morphs and joint centres) will have the same name at both ends of the link - which is what the error message means by duplicate formula.

Reporting it is pretty much the best thing we can do, and hope it gets fixed.  You can try to fix it yourself, but depending on the issue, it could be extremely time consuming, if it even works.  I had to uninstall 4 figures that came from a bundle and even after months of reporting it through tickets, the PA never fixed it, so I just got a refund for store credit.  I never even received a response and that PA even released more products in the midst of all that-so now I no longer buy their products.

A sort of script or utility would be welcomed to take care of the duplicate formulas, since PA have not really time to update.

    It's awfully time-consuming

First off, a way to load a figure without any morphs and apply morphs when needed would be a big plus.

The PA has a responsibility to either release the product without the issue(s) or properly update them once they've been reported.  I understand problems happen, but they need to be properly fixed.  We shouldn't have to do it, but at times we're forced to do so.  Many of these products are expensive enough as it is without us having to do QA for them.  That's how refunds happen, and that's also how they lose customers.

You can also load a base G9 figure without any textures or morphs and do what you want with it.

  • As I said most of the time, almost always in soemthing that has been released, a duplicate formula issue is a clash between two products rather than an absolute bug in just one. Daz Studio does try to make it very unlikely that this will happen in future, but there are workflows that may negate that.

Isn't the refund window limited to 30 days ?

Granted, I documented the issue right away in a separate ticket and referenced that same problem existing when I requested my refund, unsure if that had any bearing on the decision.  Unsure if I would have gotten my actual money back, as I asked for store credit as a good way to track the reduction for my next purchase.

  • Thanks for the response. Sorry I am so late in answering. How do I check the log to know which character is doing it?

Agreed.  I really wonder why some kind of scrpt or utility to help with this hasn't been developed and released by someone given that it's obvious that getting it fixed on the PA half of the equation is unlikely to ever be real solution.. then again, we still don't have a fix for the disappearing cursor issue or DS User and Starter documentation that covers something beyond Genesis 2.

  • Perhaps an add-on for Turbo Loader. Detect duplicates, and have the option to enable/disable them by checking a box.

@Ravencrest I opened the log file (Help > Log File), select and delete the entirety. Click Yes. Load the offending figure. Reopen the log file. Carefuly scan down the list looking for "Duplicate File Error," and making note of each instance and what character name is listed beside it. There may be one or several. Then decide which character(s) you are willing to sacrifice, and uninstall them using DIM. If they're a third party product, then seek and delete.

I am not following - in general nothing is broken, it's a clash, and while someone could certainly write a script to give the properties unique names (perhaps doing what DS now does and using the vertex count, so that every user got the same result) most PAs do seem to fix the issues.

then again, we still don't have a fix for the disappearing cursor issue or DS User and Starter documentation that covers something beyond Genesis 2.

  • Thanks xyer0 I will try this.  It seems to me that Genesis 9 works fine, is there a real need to remove the character? Is it just these two (or however many) character morphs that wont work?

Duplicate file errors might not stop a product from working correctly. But they can increase load times significantly. If you can live with the longer load times and can't bear to uninstall one or both of the characters, then you have your answer.
