just a general observation as customer

I confess I do look in at the Daz3D shop several times a day and the most interesting areas are Lightning Deals and FastGrabs - there is something about the quick-changing and opportunistic grab which is appealing, even if I don't see anything I want to get. Maybe it's the short attention span syndrome honed by years of short-form social media....

On the other hand, I almost entirely ignore those categories because they're harder to keep track of and the nature of the sales/deals here usually favours putting together large carts where you apply a sales bonus to everything in the cart, and get back the maximum number of tokens.
oh the complex calculating ! I never participate in any of that, I just see a simple deal offer, and I want it, I go for it. I can't do the math
I'm more focused on Blender lately and I still would love to see more Blender friendly content, as transfering Daz content is sometimes cumbersome.
I always hoped that G9 would support a more Blender/Unreal compatible system, but it seems that Daz has his own thoughts here, so I decided to stay on G8/G8.1. Luckily some vendors still support this generation next to G9 and for transfer there is still Diffeomorphic.
Started with Poser a long time ago and went to Daz with G3, as this was a great generation after V4/M4. I always saw Daz as a content provider, but I'm not sure, how Daz sees that. As Daz Studio is free, they only make money with content and memberships, which are only wanted by a certain long term group of Daz users that is not young anymore, so I assume.
I do have my workflow and there is still content that I'm interested in, besides G9. I just have no idea, where Daz will be going in the next years...
The Fast Grabs mostly annoy me because they won't stack with anything else. There have been a bunch of times I would have bought something, except the dumb thing was on Face Grab. So there it stayed. 100% of the time I've gotten it for a better deal later.
Lightning Deals are interesting. I check in just out of curiosity, but don't really hold out hope unless there's some other sale that drops the prices extra. I've found stuff I wouldn't have otherwise, though, and wishlisted it. And once in a while I've gotten a really nice bargain. Mostly I giggle at how it's advertised. Um, no, not bound to love any of that. Or even vaguely like it a little. The "custom tailor"ing leaves a lot to be desired.
I always had the same vision. I wish everyday Daz 5 being just a (big) layer over Blender (or a fork), having a friendly UI for new starters, adding support for their own stuff, and allowing advance users to use Blender features. IMO they should focus in the content, their marketplace, and stop reinventing the wheel in complex physics and graphics algorithms for no real benefit. Just imagine to do animations, soft body physics, modeling, fluids, etc in Blender with a perfect integration with Daz content. The dream.
The randomness can be frustrating, but sometimes I see some good things. The store heavily incentizes you visiting it constantly throughout the day. The lightning deals and other flash sales give me a sense of FOMO, too, which as a marketing strategy, tends to work quite well. I have to remind myself that most of this IS an addiction and I'm trying to get better at my spending.
I usually visit the store daily, even though my budget for the month is fixed and rarely lasts beyond day 2 (if the incentive is satisfactory). The reason for the daily visit - there is such churn of new items that the rare item I like could easily get lost in stuff I'm un-interested in, and it's nice to add the nice stuff to the wishlist to remind me. Currently, I have 21 in my wishlist.
Regards,
Richard
Only 21 items ! (quickly hides large stash of wishlisted items)
I agree that the DAZ3D store is frequently frustrating – particularly in the twists and turns of its sales. I’m online a lot doing other stuff, but I check on
I’m retired and a longtime dabbler/hobbyist at this. I’m not looking for assets to create an awesome render for the ages or to write a novel or create an animation to put Disney out of business. I just do this for fun. My interests are not in the great majority of assets in the store and I have no expectations of finding much that I would buy. But on rare occasion, I find a small gem in Fast Grab or an item in a sale that makes me open my PayPal account.
...I learned "new math" in grade school, was a math and science wiz in high school, studied computer programming in the 1970s, and even took a course in abstract algebra, but still find myself stymied by Daz Math at times..
As to lighting deals I rarely find anything interesting. I mostly seem to get textures for clothing I don't have, Gen4 and G1 content, poses for older generations, and G9 characters.. Granted I maybe check it once or twice a day as I have other things to do than baby-sit the Daz store. so likely there may be stuff I miss that I would purchase.
As to sales, yeah most are rather meh as you always need a new release "buy-in" for special deals and extra discounts.
I've mentioned this elsewhere but it would be a nice "mini-perk" for Daz+ members if new Daz+ items would qualify for unlocking better discounts and deals.
So far the Holidaz sale was the best I've seen as tokens, punches and coupons all stacked and i got some ludicrous discounts.. Cleared a lot of the wishlist that sale.
Hoping that MM will be similar.
They regurlarly do, either during Daz+ months (well, Premier months now) or in a couple of sales during the rest of the year.
In fact, the last time it happened was yesterday, when Daz+ new releases could be used to get a 10, 15 or 20% discount on Gift cards.
