Editing LIEs? (solved)

Can someone remind me where you access the LIE layer display in DAZ Studio? I can't seem to find it in my layout or in any of the menus, and I've tried right-clicking on hamburger menus and all that. Probably right under my nose, but I sure can't find it. Thanks.

In Surface tab, click on an image and select Layered Image Editor.

Thank you, I had tried right-clicking on the image and since it wasn't showing up, I thought there might be an issue with it on my end.

Strictly they are LIs - Layered Images - LIE is the Layered Image Editor that is the usual way to create or adjust them.

    Thanks, Sheldon... cheeky

  • Now, LI's are slow, both in the initial creation and then loading a duf file next time. I think I remember seeing the finished/resultant LI in a temporary directory somewhere. I can remember thinking 'That would be good to copy to save time'. And promptly forgot where it was. Err, can someone suggest a location for me to look for one again? Regards, Richard.

If you hover over the micro-thumbnail of whichever channel the LI is used, it will pop-up the file and path used. Likely "[yada, yada]/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/Studio4 [or Studio 4 Public Build]/temp/[filename]"

  • Thanks. I knew it should be easy to find.. but couldn't. Regards, Richard

By default they are compressed heavily (but losslessly) which takes time - if you go to Edfit>Preferences (Daz Studio>Preferences on a Mac) and look in the  Interface tab there is a slider for Layered Texture Compression which allows you to opt for larger image files, which will process more quickly.

This is probably a dumb question, but Richard mentioned that the Layered Image Editor in Daz Studio can create Layered Images. How do you do that?

If you clcik an image in the surface tab, you get an option for Layered Image Editor. In there you can add more layers as images or colors and masks. Like a primitive image editing program. You can also change blend mode. The resulting image is saved as a temp file.

Thanks felis. I knew that you could add images as layers, but didn't realize you could add layers as colours and masks, or that you could change the blend modes.

Are the LIEs (or LIs, thank you Richard, now can you also start telling people that DAZ is the company name and to quit saying "how do I make the breasts larger in DAZ?") temp files cleared after Studio is closed, or are they building up somewhere?   ;)

They should be cleared, which is why every load is slow with the maximum compression (as it rebuilds the temp file each time).
