..................................................I have a limited attention span...........................................................
I've been talking to ChatGPT a lot. Mostly about game ideas (one which I'm working on), the future (Chat has been my go-to for advice now that the most sensible person in the family is no longer around), the current state of Mount Vesuvius (I've been watching "Up Pompeii!"), watermarks and logos, game recommendations (Demon's Souls or Elden Ring), texture conversions in Blender... As well as some other stuff.
I've also been working in Daz and Blender. Except, I need to find another site to post my work/renders on, as my DeviantArt page seems to be dead (my DreamUp images have got more favorites than my lastest Daz renders - And that's on a site that apparently hates AI... Go figure, I can't).
For me, dangerously cold temps means a kiddo who's frustrated that he can't get outside. Poor little dude doesn't understand why I can't just change the weather for him... makes for some rough days when his sense of routine is blown to pieces. So I've mostly been mitigating that.
Whomever angered Elsa, please go apologize.
(Yeah, I know it's normal for my state. If it was just me I'd mind less.)
Also, nothing catching my fancy either for sales or new products... many are pretty and well made, but I don't have a use for them.
Those twilight days are simultaneously the most precious and the most heartbreaking... and also the greatest honor to be able to be there for them. Wishing them to be as best for you both that they can be, and that his transition is a peaceful one when it comes.
So the temperature here was warm enough that I didn't need a jacket yesterday, for the first time in days (weather). I had a mammogram and then went to Target CVS Pharmacy and got the latest Pneumonia vaccine (body maladies). While at Target I checked to see what kind of tomatoes they had (shopping). This is all true, so I had something safe to ramble on about today. Thanks, LeatherGryphon.
Oh, yes, I also went out to lunch and then got a carryout salad for my husband and a milkshake for a friend in the next town. The milkshake was a little melted by the time I delivered it, but he still enjoyed it. These seem like safe topics, too (food - could also be considered shopping).
So, you can see that my life is far too busy to shop at the Daz store these days.
It is a very precious time, as you say, and knowing what's coming is heartbreaking. 'Squeaky' has two cancer sites, and he's not well enough to have an operation for either to be removed (kidneys are not functioning well). They've been there a year, and I'm pleased & relieved that they've grown very little in that year, and don't seem to bother him at all. He remains, though, boss cat at home. Our 12yo Maine Coon 'Ozzie', despite being nearly twice his size, is most definitely NOT boss cat. We want a kitten, but 'Squeaky' is too old, grumpy & creaky to put up with another, so we'll hold off until he's gone. If 'Squeaky' starts to suffer, we'll get the vet to put him to sleep.
Regards,
Richard
You buy the vaccine yourself? But but but - you don't administer it yourself as well, right? I mean, you take it to a medic and they'll give you the injection, I suppose. Or are there oral pneumonia vaccines now? I'm confused ... But hey, also managed to participate in a totally (presumably?) unoffensive and safe topic! Yay!
So very sorry. It's hard when pets die or very close. In the last year, we lost are cat and dog. Our dog had to kidney failure which was causing seizures nonstop, and the cat had a stroke and the lost all use of her back end. They both were 16yrs old. Now we have 2 new cats.
In the US, the vaccine is paid for by Medicare for us "Senior Citizens", so I just went to the pharmacy and the pharmacist got the vaccine out from his supply and gave me the shot. There have been pneumonia vaccines for many years, but new and better ones keep coming out. This is my third pneumonia vaccine, each one different. I'm not aware of any oral pneumonia vaccine. Even though I was previously vaccinated, I still got pneumonia this November. I asked the pharmacist why that happened, and he said that those older vaccines tended to wear off. This new one should last "forever". However, he said that the previous vaccine I had probably built up my immune system enough to keep me out of the hospital and get over it quicker. It still took weeks to recover.
The vaccine I got is CAPVAXIVE. It is very new.
The do make one now that covers you for life I believe so you don't have to get it every 5-10 yrs. I just renewed mine 6 months ago, but then didn't have the new one that I'll never have to get again. I would've had to do it at the pharmacy.
My darling Russian Blue was diagnosed with heart issues in December of 2020... I remember at the time thinking he wouldn't make it till the next Yule. There were medications to help, but he wasn't a cat that took them easily, and I decided the stress was worse than the benefit. Even so, he seemed happy to be with us, and we made accomodations, and he made it three more years. Seventeen and a half is a good run for a cat, but it's never enough.
Haven't adopted anyone new yet, though I'm sure we will at some point.
We over here have been able to get vaccines from the pharmacy for a while too, I had my flu/covid there in December.
the constant Cloudflare errors today should keep it quiet
Yesterday too, We reported it about 20 min ago
Pets: @frank0314 I am both sorry for your losses and happy you have new animal friends.
@Richardandtracy I also wish sweet and gentle days for you and your cat, whatever their number.
Late November, we had a scare with our 10 year old Lab/Belgian. He has bad hip dysplasia and no doubt arthritis on top of that. The first bad cold snap this winter had him in such bad shape he could barely use his back legs and no interest in anything but food (he's a Lab). He never had such a bad time. We were so afraid it was his time...But the vet tried tramadol & amazingly it worked so well! He's back to his old self - walking on all fours, begging for extra food, snuggling us, and reminding younger border collie cohort that "I am Alpha dog!" (Nevermind that said collie doesn't care about the alpha thing, just attention & food, in that order LOL.)
Computers: Is there a limit on post lengths? Because I'd love to tell everyone ALL about my 9 year old laptop, HAL 9000 2.0 & its quirks. Maybe this is the year I finally get a new computer...
I hope the stars align so that you can... a year ago last November I finally replaced the one I'd gotten in 2012; it'd been mediocre at best when it was new (the now-ex-husband worked in I/T and had final say) and I'd been limping it along for ages. This one isn't the height of tech, either, but it opened up the world of 3D art for me. And I got to pick it out myself, which was daunting but satisfying. May your new one, when you get it, bring you such joy. :)
Perhaps they can't read the report because of the Cloudflare errors.
My computer is in its third year, I think. It's still pretty happy except for an OS headache that knocked out my access to my Affinity suite. I swear, I have the worst luck with that company's programs... Everything else seems fine. I'm not sold on reloading everything, so I guess Affinity sits on the sidelines for a while.
I've been around sporadically, but have been mostly lurking. I decided to take a break from shopping at DAZ as I have not even used the stuff I bought in the Published Artist sale in the Fall. $20 a month for Premier is steep for me, and I wasn't thrilled at the price increase in DAZ+, so I'm a base member now. I have been looking at the daily shop offerings and wishlisting things here and there. I'm not interested in skimpwear, and there seems to be more and more of that. I think I've said before that DAZ became more about the shopping than the art for me so it's just as well that I take a break from shopping. I hope everyone is keeping warm and condolences to those with sick fur babies. I lost the cat who was like a furry daughter to me several years ago and don't have any pets right now; I feel like I can't bear to go through that grief again.
@miladyderyni_173d399f47 Yes there is a limit to the length of a post however one can figure out [trial and error] how many posts are required and save a bunch in a row. For eg. Make the first post, then immediately make and save a bunch more with a variety of text basically saying "post reserved." Then take the time to "edit" each of those posts with the rest of the story :-) I've done this from time to time when posting tutorials.
Moved to a new machine just recently, imaged my drive C (which was an HDD) on the old machine to an SSD, moved that to the new machine. After a lot of complications and headaches, I finally got the new machine working the way I wanted it. Went from a mid 2010s AMD machine on a motherboard that maxxed out on 32gigs, to a new AMD (AM4) machine that can take about 128gigs, but that I've fitted with 64gigs (its an ASUS Prime B550-PLUS AMD AM4 Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 & 3rd Gen Ryzen ATX Motherboard), then moved my 3060 card over to it. This is in the RGB-fans version of a Corsair 4000D Mid-Tower Case, because it was only $10 more than the non-RGB version on black friday special. I am quite happy with the new machine.
Is it me, or is there a whole new but subtle change to the whole forum site, as of a few minutes ago? The font and coloring seem to have changed a bit, and there was a whole different "We can't load the forum page" page.
yes, very often

I tend to write a post, then wait a while before posting. The waiting time may be 15-20 minutes, or even 24 hours. Usually when I look at the post again, I just decide it didn't need to be posted. (I didn't wait on this one, I probably should have.)
Hopefully the Gateway issue is settled now...
The issue reminds me of that scene in the 90s move The Lawnmover Man where God Jobe is trying to escape the terminal to enter, well, the internet (I believe that's what he was doing). And he can't find a backdoor so all you see is ACCESS DENIED. ACCESS DENIED. Then at the last second he finally finds the backdoor and that computerized voice says in a...suggestive tone ACCESS GRANTED. As I type this out I realize how absolutely insane this sounds to someone who hasn't seen the movie
Yeah I watch some weird movies.
I am still installing older products at about 30 - 40 GBs a day and that has been great for surpressing my shopping addiction at DAZ 3D. I am rediscovering a whole lot of wonderful products that have been neglected in the glut of shiny new items that often duplicate the older ones. I am even ignoring the multitude of free hallways from DAZ+. Yeah, also not interested in the skimpwear. The few items that have come to my attention this month I have put on my wishlist. It is also tax season in the U.S., so that means a hard look at how I spent money last year. Yeah, spending less on non-essentials.
Pets... It hurts. When I lost one after another of my family of Lhasa Apsos in the 2000s I swore I would never get another pet. Each death broke my heart. And then I moved in with two guys, one with an older black cat, Jake, who he adopted after his owner died and the other guy who had an American Eskimo who hated women. Bugsy was left behind with me when that guy walked out on us. My bed ended up as Jake and Bugsy's preferred napping spots. We lost Jake to age and diabetes in 2019. Bugsy died in 2022 from age and kidney disease. Both of us had our hearts broken again.
A year and a half ago, I found a picture of a ginger cat that needed to be adopted with his older brother and had 'issues'. We both fell in love. After all this time, Simon of the 3 paws, 'the Marine' is sent out to get me if Charlie his older brother can't get me to do something. Charlie knows the time and comes after me for bed. Both can be quite chatty and love YouTube videos if there are squirrels in them. Hearts can expand for new loves, while our lost ones guard our computers.
We certainly have a lot of hallways and corridors!
I suspect this will be how it is for me. All the fur-family in my life has always found me, never the other way around. There's kind of a joke in the family that the weirdly complicated ones always pick us because they know we'll take care of them. Heck of an honor, if it's true.
