Of course youn are right, but i have to agree with Deke that a selector in the render setting that can be either set (by default) to "Active Viewport" or fixed to one of the Cameras would be helpful.
Especially in more complex scenes where the render Preparartion before you see the first picture (and you realize that you were on the wrong viewport) takes multiple minutes, it is really annoying when that happens....

It's actually whatever window you make active. Whichever window has the orange outline is the one that will render.
