Controlling the view
I have built a scene which I now realize has too much surrounding space. This means that I have to waste time zooming into the scene each time I open the file in order to work on it. Is there a way to crop this scene? If not, is there a way to select a scene and have it "snap" zoom rather than wait for the snail paced zoom I am subjected to presently.

Are you suing the Perspective View? That isn't saved with the scene. If, instead, you create one or more cameras they will be saved so you won't need to reset them each time.
Thanks. Camera view is much better. I would like to learn how to use this view with more skill. Are there videos or tutorials with pictures for v4.9? Though the concepts are similar, the tutorials I found have an interface that is quite different than what I am seeing.
When I set up a scene in a camera view and render it, it is quite different from whatI saw in the camera. How do I render out exactly what I am see through the camera?
Assuming you have the aspect frame enabled (in the viewport option menu - the lined button at top-right) to show how the image will be cropped you should get the same framing as in the preview.
