Weird checkered strips on skin

in New Users
I've been having these strange grid like patterns appearing on my figures occasionally over the last month, and it's been appearing more and more. Anyone have any idea what is causing this and how I can avoid it happening in the future?

3Delight I assume, given that the render is going in buckets.
It could be the SSS settings for your figure's skin - possibly you have two different items using the SSS shader with the same GroupID; to check seelct all objects, then select one of the skin surfaces, right-click with the Surface Selection tool, and select by GroupID - if surfaces on more than one item are selected you need to change the Group ID on each so that every item has a unique ID (don'tchange the setting within a figure, though - if they match now they should still match after making changes). Failing that try adjusting the SSS shading rate down on all surfaces with the same Group ID on your figure. If that fails try the SSS Scale.
The other thing to try, though it's unliklely to be the issue as the problem afffects only the skin, is the Shadow Bias setting on your lights - one or more of them may be too low, which causes self-shadowing.
