Pointlights etc under Iray Enviro lights? Specular Rendering?
I tried the Iray HDR Outdoor Environments on my scene.
I want to be able to add illumination on my main figure.
Either I increase the intensity of the IHDROE, which floods the whole scene, or the light focuses on something other than the main figure.
I tried using Pointlights. Since using the IHDROE, they barely illuminate anything no matter how many lumens I use.
I tried getting rid of the IHDROE (tried killing the Headlamp Blockers, etc), but it doesn't completely go away once used, and the Pointlights still won't work.
I tried searching Youtube tutorials, online text posts, and these forums.
I saw only one seemingly relevant post that said to turn off Specular Rendering.
Nowhere in the post or responses did it say where that was to be found.
I did more searching, 'til I found something saying that Specular rendering was found under Render Settings - Environment - Advanced.
I checked that in my Daz Studio (4.22).
Couldn't find Specular Rendering anywhere, not even in the sub tabs in Enviro-Advanced.
I tried the Spectral Rendering, in case someone had just made a typo, and that didn't work.
I'm at a loss, here.

Ok. I'll try that again. Maybe I missed something.
Alright. Tried that. No effect. It was already set to Dome & Scene, so I even tried changing away from it, then going back to it.
Still no change.
Any other ideas?
Download and try to render the attached scene. It uses DTHDR-OutdoorB-Background, G9, and one point light with much increased brightness. Does it work for you? Based on your answer, we can continue to diagnose from there.
I also attached my two renders - one without point light and one with a single point light.
Thank you.
Downloaded it. It wanted me to download Gen9 Starter Essentials, and I did.
I ran the file. It said it couldn't find /data/Daz 3D/Genesis 9/Genesis 9 Mouth/Morphs/P3Design/Rowan/P3DRowan_head_bs_Teeth.dsf
Was that environment seen in your renders supposed to be included in your scene file?
If it was, it didn't appear when I opened your file.
In the scene above, my G9 is at world center 0,0,0. These are my point light settings and location.
I don't know why it is looking for that P3DRowan morph. I just loaded the base G9 character from the starter essentials. Just ignore that missing P3DRowan file message. Say OK and move past it.
The HDRI is "included" in the scene file as a link to the HDRI in the content library. Since you said you were using that product, it should show up for you in Iray Preview in the viewport or when the scene is rendered with the Iray render engine. It won't be visible in Texture Shaded draw style in the viewport. Have you tried rendering the scene? You didn't get a missing file error about the HDRI, did you?
I rendered it.
It works.
I've downloaded the screenshots you'd shared.
So far the only difference I can tell is the lumen count.
In my own efforts on my project, I had raised the lumens higher even than yours.
I will look through the settings you'd shared, and maybe I'll see something I'd missed.
Just to reiterate my original post: The forum post I'd seen before about this sort of issue said to turn off Specular Rendering.
So I was never looking to use SR; I wanted to turn it off. I just couldn't find it. It wasn't where it was supposed to be.
So if we don't figure something else in another few tries, I'd like to reconsider that angle, ask for help finding SR settings,& try that, at least to rule it out.
OK, you can render my scene OK, so we are making progress. There is nothing inherently wrong with your computer or Daz Studio, it would seem.
It is called Spectral Rendering, not Specular Rendering, and it is on the Render Settings pane.It is probably already disabled by default. I'm not aware of any setting called Specular Rendering.
Is your point light too far from the object you are trying to illuminate? Lights have fall off, like in the real world. The farther it is from the object, the less light will reach the object. You can light up your hand with a flashlight, but if you shine that flashlight on a house a block away, you probably won't see it.
Is your point light blocked by some other object in the scene that has come between the light and the object you are trying to light up?
I mentioned Spectral Rendering also in my OP. Right there at the bottom.
I will try it again, just in case.
And I have tried moving the PointLights very close to my figure. That wasn't working, either.
But, again, I will give that another shot and see what I might be able to figure on that end.
Please post some screenshots of your point light settings and render settings. Can you attach you scene file for me to examine? I might not have everything you used, but I still might be able to see a problem.
