How Can I Create Dirty Hair?

I would like to add a dirty look to hair, what is the best way to go about it?  Geoshells. decals? I'm curious to hear opinions!

What kind of hair? Different types will require different approaches.

Right ~ For polygonal hairs, modifying texture maps or using geo-shell with dirt textures is doable.  For SBHs, you also can modify the texture maps if there's any... or create texture maps plus using different blending mode on the hair, for instance, with Omni Shader. (technically it should work though I've not tried it yet myself...)  Technically geo-shell can work on SBHs but the approach is very cumbersome... with PR hair generation. Decal node won't really work on polygonal hais / SBHs to make dirty effects, as far as I ever experimented...

Alternatively, I'd rather recommend going for post-work which may be much easier...

Fantastic answer from 'crosswind'...if you are confident in Photoshop 'Ron's Dirt', that can be purchased in the Daz Shop...may be something to look in to...links attached, BUT make sure you read carefully what versions of Photoshop the brushes and Effects are for eg CS+ or CC etc as they are not backwards compatible.

...alternatively there are more similar Products from Rons Brushes'...links also.
